Is Todhills or Gretna the best place to stop for charging on M6 Southbound?

I’ve had good results using the CPS chargers at Kyleakin on Skye beside the bridge. I’ve used them as a staging post after Tesla Fort William to top up en- route to Applecross. That leaves me with around 150 miles worth of power in Applecross- more than enough to return to Fort William or back to Kyleakin if I use the car battery via the power station for cooking etc.

I'm spending the week in Sleat, so no intention of going near the bridge. (The thought of getting to Mallaig and the ferry is off is a bit scary given how far the journey round via the bridge is.) I will need at least one charge on Skye, maybe two, just to run the car as a hostel room for the week. There's a charger at An Crùbh which is convenient but although CPS assured me it was working it keeps coming up on ZapMap as out of service. I'm not sure the one at Broadford is very reliable either and if push comes to shove I may need to go to Kyleakin or even cross the bridge back to Kyle just to get a charge!

The only time I tried the Kyle charger I couldn’t get anything from it. I’ve used one or other of the two in Kyleakin four times now with no problems.
Directly opposite over the road is Saucy Mary’s or something like that - excellent for food, coffee, breakfast etc. very helpful staff.
Walk on towards the old ferry pier and Castle Moil restaurant and King Haakon Bar are also very good, I enjoyed the Cullen Skink fish soup there.

If you head up North at any point, there's a rapid in Dunvegan and 3 in Portree, there's also I think an ultra rapid in the hotel? on the left just as you come into Portree, never used it so I'm not sure what it is.

last time I passed the Broadford one had no power.

There were 5 in the main Portree carpark when we were there a couple of months ago. The Broadford charger had no power and was looking very sorry for itself.

That’s better in Portree then but a bit sad in Broadford with all its passing traffic.

Portree is one of my regular stops, there are only 3 rapids there and the AC is apparently switched off on them so ccs/chademo only

I'm attending a 5-day summer school so I don't imagine I'll have much time for sightseeing. I'm planning to sleep in Caliban though, because all the accommodation was taken by the time I booked, so I need access to a charger to keep the heat working at night. I've never gone more than two nights without charging, but three is possible if the car is just sitting there all day and it's not too cold at night. I might only need one charge, but I do have to make sure I have plenty charge to get back to Mallaig at the very least on Friday. And of course I might do some of that sightseeing, you never know. Hopefully An Crùbh will be OK but thanks for confirming my suspicions about Broadford. I can see that Kyleakin is the best backstop from what everyone is saying.

Actually, looking at the weather, although I'm likely to get cho fliuch ri sgarbh on Sunday evening/Monday morning, it's going to pick up after that and by the end of the week I can see me deciding to switch my ferry ticket and stay on a couple of days longer.

Right now I should probably go out and move Caliban into the garage, I don't want him broadsided by a flying wheelie bin.

Stay safe, charged and dry.

I'm glad the course isn't this week. It's apparently raining a monsoon and blowing a 45 mph gale where I intend to camp. Don't fancy getting up and dressed in that, never mind heating water to wash in and getting washed.

Standard connectors. Fitted my MG5 and now my e Berlingo watch the time you arrive at them and try to arrive with time to spare in order to get the cheap rate power.
You full charge is charged at the rate when you start charging, so don't worry if the rate changes while you are mid-charge. :)

Won’t be a midge for miles mind 🤣

Always finding the bright side!

See where the 80-90 mph gusts are showing on that weather map? That is exactly where I'll be camping this time next week. Just as well the forecast is for today not next Monday.

It's pretty wild right here right now, but I gather not exceeding 60 mph.

Aye we’re nearing a reported max of 57 mph between 2 and 3 o’clock today so the trees are getting a good shake. I don’t see any fallen apples from here yet. I knocked one off the James Grieve tree as I was proofing the Teepee tent yesterday but it wasn’t nearly ready, a bit wersh tasted and the seeds are pure white. The Bloody Ploughman apples are looking terrific in their bright red skins but I’m guessing 3 or 4 weeks til harvest time (can’t wait - the ploughman apples taste like strawberries 👌)
Some decent days approaching I think so Berlingo should be setting sail soon. I’m just checking the runes and testing the new powered cool box from Go Outdoors.

We're supposedly getting the 57 mph max between one and two, and continuing well over 50 mph till eight in the evening. I am officially not going anywhere.

ETA: Good Lord, my gardener has just shown up, brandishing a strimmer and waving cheerfully. They build them tough around here.

I think after 3pm we’ll be slowly pegging down to 40 mph by the witching hour. My broomstick is securely tethered until morning I reckon 🤩

Off topic, but I need a decent gardener/landscaper just outside Temple/Gorebridge if you have a recommendation?
