It is not only the battery that can fail

This is interesting to watch. Everyone is worried about the battery but it seems lots of other things could go wrong.



What we really need is some independent garages which are experts in electric cars.

Luckily there are so much fewer parts in an EV than in an ICE, and many of them are common between EV and ICE, apart from just a few (vital) ones

Almost all parts can fail. But as @webhiker says, EVs have fewer, especially on the mechanical side.

EV main failures:

• Battery failures (failed module compromises whole battery, quite rare).
• Motor failures (very rare, except if lubrication or cooling also fails).
• Charging system failures (complexity and heavy electrical loads).
• 12V battery failures (low capacity but high electrical loads).
• Endless software bugs (lots of new systems).
• Suspension component failures (due to weight and wear and tear of acceleration and regen).
• Loose connections (due to complexity).

... the good news is that these 'cottage scientists/communities' are springing up everywhere, such that you can get a replacement of the single module which is causing the issue. You are seeing it with batteries (e.g. the video below), and no doubt as time goes on will see it on other components that regularly fail. You dont need mechanics any more, but software electrical engineers, maybe?
