Hi all. Newbi here.
Collected new 2025 HS Trophy Phev in December 25. Set up charging with octopus intelligent go with Hypervolt Home pro3 charger. Everything connecting and car charging. No scheduled charge set up in ismart mg app.
When the scheduled charge (octopus sets the schedule) starts, the headlights and tail lights come on for approx 20 seconds then go off. This happens every time a charge starts within the schedule.
I have spoken to my dealer who advised , has never come across this. Hypervolt has checked charger and all looks good.
Anyone experiencing this weird event?

Thanks for your advice.
I did try that without success but may not have saved the changes?
Will give it another go.🤞

Yep I have this too. I’ll try the follow me home tip to see if it changes things.

Set both light settings off and checked they didn’t come on when parked and start. Confirm the settings and lights did not come on.
Schedule charge start and lights came on. So it seems this is not a fix.
Contacted MG customer support who were next to useless saying our technical support only speaks to the dealer network. They advised I contact my dealer, which I have already done and they have never come across this situation.
Will give dealer a call and see what they suggest🤷🏻‍♂️

Problem not resolved. Took car back to dealership and plugged in at dealership to charge. Lights stayed off.
Had Octopus disengage Hypervolt and car from their system. Plugged in to charge, lights came on.
Does anyone have the same set up as mine I.e. hypervolt home 3 pro charger linked to octopus intelligent go tariff? If so, is it working without the car lights coming on?
Appreciate any replies.

I'm not sure that this is going to help you but I have a Hypervolt with a different energy supplier. I have the same issue if I start a charge during a dark evening, however I recently noticed the lights do not come on when my charger comes on at 1am for a scheduled charge. 🤷

Thanks for your reply.
The lights come on when on a scheduled charge. They do not come on when I start a bump charge. Doesn’t make any difference whether day or night. As I mentioned, they even came on when Hypervolt and car disconnected from octopus and charged during day through Hypervolt.
Will contact my dealer to see if they will bring same model hs as mine and connect it to my charger to try and eliminate any issue with my car.
This is really baffling🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi, I can confirm that I have the same set up and problem. My lights come on with scheduled charging as well. My car goes in for its first annual service on 11th Feb. I’ll mention it to the dealer then.

Hi. Thanks for your reply.
My dealership contacted me yesterday. The service manager advised that a member of their staff took the same HS model to his home and set up a schedule charge. Experienced the same issue with lights coming on then going off after 15-20 seconds.
It now appears that this is not a fault but a characteristic of the car.
A friend of mine has a full electric jaguar. Their lights come on also when on a schedule charge.
So, to conclude: this happens to other manufactures also. It seems at the start of schedule charge, the car assumes it’s being woken up triggering the lights to come on.
Not ideal, but relieved it’s not a fault with the car.
As your car is going in for its service soon, perhaps you could ask your dealer to look into this and see what response you get and post back?
Thanks to all for responses.

Same on mine.
I don't mind as it lets me know that the car is charging!
(Had a couple of Octopus failures!)

I’m lucky that we don’t have neighbours opposite. I don’t think they’d like my lights coming on multiple times a night with my Octopus Intelligent Go charging schedule!

I have the same issue using a granny charger - ie lights come on when charge starts.
I was also trying to use Home Assistant to monitor the charging cycle/power used etc. however, each time Home Assistant communicates to the car to check the charge status - the lights come on.
I had to stop using the HA integration as it was illuminating the street every 10mins - which is a shame.

So this is looking like the car is being woken up when charging starts.
It would be helpful if SRP1 could let us know what his dealer says when his cars serviced.
I’ll contact MG customer services to see if they would raise a ticket so that their tech guys could look into with a view of a software fix to stop the lights coming on when charging.🤷🏻‍♂️

I have only ever used a granny charger since purchase back in April 2025. My lights have never illuminated when starting a charge so I can only imagine your software needs a tweak; worth a mention, I think, next time you visit your MG service centre.

Thanks for the useful feedback. I find it quite concerning that all our MGs seem to have unique operating characteristics, which hints of MG using their customer base to test their software. I am a loathed to request a software update since (touching a lot of wood) I haven’t really detected any other quirks - oh apart from no Eq settings when using the DAB radio 😀.

I, too, am in a similar position, all systems working as expected except for one, namely the music playback from a USB stick. (Plays in song title order rather than designated file order, trying to override this pointless as it reverts each time you start up)

I previously asked MG and the dealership if a software upgrade would correct this, as expected nobody knew.

So I figured maybe not worth taking a chance: who knows what collateral damage would be created after the update. And to be honest, although not ideal, I can live with the semi-random play list.

Car went in for first service today. They confirmed that the lights coming on at commencement of charging cannot be altered. I suppose nobody at MG anticipated that Octopus Intelligent Go might initiate numerous charging sessions per night! Dealer also said there were no software updates for my Feb 25 registered HS Trophy PHEV. Has anybody else had any updates, like installing the custom button for turning off the numerous bings and bongs?
