Long-term ZS owners

I've just put a deposit on a 2023 MG ZS EV.
I'm buying it, subject to a test drive next week.
I'd like to hear from any long-term owners about reliability, etc., and their experience with MG motors.
Never had an EV before, and my current diesel car hasn't had any real problems in the last 13 years that I've owned it, hoping to get something as reliable.

through to this poor chap with 2 years+ of hassle with his ZS...
Not how I thought today was going to pan out...

I bought new in Jan 25 and it has worked just fine for 6,000 miles.
The infotainment is a bit flaky but I find that entertaining.
I also found you can get the car to believe it is ready to charge with the blue lights showing, but if the connector is not fully home it won't charge. There is a good 1/2 inch gap between the lights going on and the cable being fully home.

Just recently bought an ex-rental '72 plate with 96k, very happy with condition and price paid (sub-£10k).

Only concern is all service history is non-MG, so no software updates since new, therefore I paid £50 for Tesla "upgrade" to be applied.

If your purchase is sub-80k miles check that an annual MG service has been done, to protect your Warranty, which may hopefully mean that any new software updates got done each year.

If you buy it, be sure to do a top balance charge (AC from sub-20% to 100% and leave connected after for 4/5 hours)

As it's from an MG dealer I would want it "in writing" before going ahead that the MG warranty is intact if you purchase and any potential subsequent claims will be honoured (within the known restrictions, which fundamentally are a three year warranty on most items)

Yeah 12 months or 15k. So should have had two services. If it has the correct service history you could ring the AA to see if it is covered by them.

My 2020 ZS EV, Mk1, has 47,000 mikes on the clock, and has never missed a beat. Great car...

You only hear the worst examples here. As long as the 7 year warranty is intact, go for it...

I saw it advertised on my local MG dealership website, when I phoned up about it she said that it had had it's first service but nothing about any others, however it went on Autotrader yesterday saying "full service history" with the last service in March 2025 so It's up to date on servicing, I think she made a mistake, I will check though.

Hmmm... only 1000 miles on a 2.5 year old car rings alarm bells in my mind. Why has it done such a low mileage? That's like only 5 full charges of the battery. Was it a owned by a low mileage user doing a 33-mile monthly round trip to the supermarket? Or has it had an accident and/or complex repairs that has meant it has been sat around in a dealership for 18 months going nowhere?

I think she made a mistake, I will check though.

I'm not trying to be negative, just saying go in with your eyes fully open.

Yes, I'll ask the questions and get it in writing. I've also copied the Autotrader ad, which states full service history.
I know they do a lot of motability stuff, so I'm assuming that the owner has gone into a home or has passed away, but I'll be asking the question.

If the selling dealer is the same one who sold the car from new, then they should hold a record of both services, ask to see it.
Two and half years old, it should had two annual services by now.
Check when the car was first registered ( sounds like spring / summer car ) then you can check if the car was serviced at the correct time intervals, to comply with the T&C’s of the MG 7 years warranty.
The service schedule in the UK is every 12 months from its first date of registration.
The mileage threshold means nothing in the case of this car, it’s the DATE factor that is the important part.
There is a small leeway of about 30 days on the service date requirement I believe.
MG CS will know if the service history is fully intact.
It could well be a motability car ?.
If you are concerned it has been involved in an accident etc, you could pay to run a car vertical check ?.
If the car has been subject to any type of insurance claim, it will show on the report !.

It's 28 days.

Assuming the vehicle has had two services, then it would be interesting to see the recorded mileages at those services - i.e. whether it has been regularly used, or used for 1 year and not the next.

If all checks out OK, then it's an almost new car with that mileage
