I don’t disagree that a system should work as advertised or intended. And I don’t disagree that the EAB could cause a dangerous situation when the driver behind is too close or slow to react. In my personal experience though, I didn’t even notice the pedestrian stepping out from the bus stop, and although they didn’t step out into the road, I can’t fault the car for thinking they were about to. And if they had, the car braking as it did could have been the difference between life and death for that person. I don’t think that is inherently flawed to be honest. I also don’t think it is a bad outcome to safe a pedestrian by having the car behind me crash into the back of me. My chances of survival are higher than theirs after all.
I agree the system can, and should, be better, but I also think it’s unrealistic to expect a perfect system, especially considering how much we’ve paid for these cars. As much as I love my MG4, I’m under no illusion it is as good quality as say a Porsche Taycan.
