Totally agree. This so called intelligent system is dangerous. I have lost all confidence to drive my MG 4 EV after it suddenly slammed on the brakes just after I turned into a side road. Luckily the driver behind me had quick reactions and a crash was avoided. This time.

Now I have received the final LKA/ELK fix at my last service, I am experimenting with turning nothing off on startup - including AEB.

This is in case the AEB has also been improved, it may be an unrelated system.

Early days but no problems so far in challenging weather, windy roads and dark conditions.

I will see if I get the false positives again, I don't mind a warning, that makes good sense, it is the slamming of the brakes on that I object to.

If I get lots of emergency braking again I will return to switching it to "Alert" not "Alert+AEB", so I still get warnings but the car can't control the brakes.

Just thinking out loud: if AEB would slam the brakes, would that also disable ACC?

AEB should override everything yes. As does the emergency lane departure avoidance system which overrides the steering wheel input from TJA (tested personally).

Technically ABS overrides the input from OPD as well (which could be the reason of cars "rolling backwards" with OPD on)

Exact same thing just happened to my partner. I've been very happy with the car, but this occurrence is highly concerning.

I encountered once today. reviewed the camera footage didn't find any special event. Just a suddenly braking shocked me. The speed only around 60km/h and no cars were very close to me. Turned the AEB off and got home safely.

I've had this about 4 times now (the latest about 4 days ago). Has always been a car or a person close to the side and front. Last one I was doing about 20mph.
Luckily no one behind.
It's only a matter of time before getting whacked.
I sometimes turn off aeb, and also lka, but it is a pain.
They need to urgently fix this.
It's clearly a dangerous fault.

I haven't experienced this on mine. I wonder what's causing it. The only annoyance I get is the way it panics when I'm reversing and getting, what it thinks, is too close to something. The alert is far too late to be of any use though, it's just annoying.

It looks too sensitive to moving objects close (a few feet) , but to the side of the car. This is clearly not always a safety situation.
Mines a SE LR, is yours a trophy? Maybe slightly different software or sensors, who knows.

The only time I've had it (apart from when using ACC in a 30 limit and passing parked cars on my side - the car can think we're heading into oncoming traffic) was when I was seemingly heading towards a pedestrian on a pavement, but the car didn't realise that the road curved to the right.

The only time I ever had it (over two years and 21,000 miles now, but the incident happened two years ago when the car was only about a month old) was when a pedestrian came out from between two parked cars as I was passing. He was only going round to the driver's door of his car, but my car obviously thought he was about to cross the road in front of us. I thought it was forgivable. Also, I wasn't going fast at the time, it was heavy traffic in a 30 mph zone.

There were cars ahead in the distance, and luckily any cars behind me were also a long way back otherwise I probably would have got rear ended.

Set the AEB sensitivity to low. It remembers this setting so you only set it once. It should only then operate the brakes when it is necessary/ good reason.

Thanks, I have switched to low now. Let's see how it goes. Presumably it doesn't just impact the alert, and quietens down the braking as well...

It does. Mine is fine and only applies the brakes if it is appropriate, which is hardly ever.

Exactly the same thing happened to me & as far as I am concerned the system worked. It can't read minds. I have had the car slow on the motorway in ACC when it has seen something it believes to require slowing/braking. I just put my foot on the accelerator and continue on & all is well.

These systems are on almost all new cars now and are designed to enhance safety and alert the driver. They are not perfect and probably never will be. If you accept that premise, stay alert and ready for the unexpected and react appropriately then job done.

These systems are on almost all new cars now and are designed to enhance safety and alert the driver. They are not perfect and probably never will be.

They'll need to be a lot better if the politicians dream of self driving cars for the masses is to become a reality. At the moment, they'd all come to a grinding halt when one person stands near a kerb.

That's surely unacceptable. The vast majority of cars aren't doing that. It could be a matter of calibrating a camera.
