Mg 5 and Lockdowns

Hi all. Still patiently awaiting any news on my Blue Excite LR MG5 ordered end March. Does anyone know where the MG5 is made in China and if that specific factory is affected by the covid lockdowns or not? Trying to manage my own expectations

In short no the factory in Shanghai is running but the biggest issue is the chip shortage. I'm still waiting for my MG5 LR ordered in September.

Thanks. Yes I've been reading all those threads. What I wasn't sure about was if the issues with the mgzs were also the same for the mg5. I was hoping not...Sept order and nothing yet ? - that's unbelievable.

It really does seem hit and miss, I ordered in Sept and it was delivered 1 Dec. Maybe the chip situation has got worse since then but the dates people are quoting here seem all over the place. Could be down to dealers who have risked placing phantom orders I suppose.

Given the lack of options on MG5's (five colours and two trims) I'm amazed more speculative orders weren't made - there was little chance of being left with something unsaleable (or only at a discount beyond dealer margins) whereas now they have the opposite problem - nothing to sell.

Unfortunately the chip shortage is affecting all makes of car, it's actually worked out well for a friend who waited months to be able even order an ice car and ended up buying a stock electric car instead.

There was a comment on the forum podcast the other week about MG fining dealers who were making speculative orders (although, not sure if this was for the MG5 too as it was mentioned when chatting about the facelift ZS).

I know someone who ordered in September a week before me and they also had their car in December. I think it reached a point where the ZS facelift orders started being fulfilled and it hit a brick wall then in terms of chips.

I can't see dealers making speculative orders on the current MG5 with a new shape model on the horizon, the old shape may be harder to sell at full price once the new one comes out.

Allegedly, no dealer is ordering the current MG5 after 27th April

MG UK no longer accepting MG5 orders from 27th April

Wow ozzie, I ordered my 5LR in September too and it was delivered in December. Tough!
