I have now had my MG HS PHEV for 1 month and wanted to give a quick review to help anyone who is interested.

I have completed 846 miles since collection when I had a full tank of petrol tank and full battery. I completed 80 miles HEV on collection day, and 2 longer round trips of 150 miles and 200 miles where I use HEV at the start and just EV as I get closer to home, if EV runs out the car seamlessly changes to HEV. All other shorter trips are just EV. I have just filled up with petrol and added 31.33L (£39.76), I charge the battery every 2 – 3 days overnight and have used 185.9kWh (7.5p per kWh + 5%vat = £14.64), I now have a full petrol tank and full battery. My calculation is that each mile is costing just over 6.4p, I feel that this month is fairly typical for me with just a few longer trips and many local trips, I’m estimating 10,000 miles per year. My previous Audi A4 estate (diesel mild hybrid) was costing just over 12p per mile plus I had the ‘luxury’ additional car tax of £425 per year or 4.25p per mile for my 10,000 miles.

The car has performed amazingly just 1 minor intermittent issue with the Bluetooth phone car microphone where I can hear the other person but they don’t hear me. At pickup I asked about the MG Pilot driver attention monitor as this had been an issue during my test drive and was told that there had been a software update, the attention monitor has not told me off once. I still disable the speed warning for longer trips as this is a bit too sensitive but as this is at the top of the menu selection it is very easy.

I hope that this helps someone who is considering getting an MG HS PHEV.

I've had mine for just under 6 months, and I too am very happy with mine.

This thread gives a few people's (including my) initial thoughts/feedback, in case you are interested: 2025 MG HS Trophy PHEV v 2020 Skoda Superb iV Sportline PHEV

However, to summarise my thoughts:
  • I tend to get around 65 miles EV range on mostly-motorway-70mph driving
  • For my pure EV miles, assuming I've used my off-peak tariff to fill up electricity, I reckon it's approx 3p per mile
  • So far the phone car microphone seems to be working OK for me (never had any complaints about hearing my voice)
  • I can't be bothered to disable the bings and bongs warnings, because they don't tend to annoy me

Hi, I agree with you about the bings and bongs, in my opinion not annoying at all, and if the manufacturer goes to the trouble and expense of adding these safety measures I think it is churlish not to use them, my motoring is 95% urban, I get 90 miles on a charge, and am averaging 4.9 mi/kWh. I think it's a beautiful car in all respects. Jeff

We have done 1600 miles since purchase beginning July, first thing from collection was to fill up. Put £60 in at the weekend that put us at 620 petrol miles, we home charge about twice weekly dependant on where we are going, we love the car but if i was to mention any niggles it would be that the size of the wing mirrors can cause blind spots but other than this it's a realy nice motor.

My main gripes are:

the indicator noise which is quite sharp and intrusive. You can lower the volume slightly in settings but it still irritates my ears.

The sound system - there's too much treble, I have lowered to two high bands on the graphics equaliser to -7 and there is still sibilance on vocals.

Feel of the steering wheel in my hands (not the flattened top and bottom, which I don't mind, but the actual cylindrical feel)

Yes, very much! I'm considering the purchase of the HS PHEV Lux edition and according to your data I'm expcting to save about €1300 per year compareed with my current vehicle! Thanks for the info!
