MG IM5 information & reviews

Electrying.com silently changed their rating for the IM5 from 8/10 to 6/10 with no changes in the write-up, which insisted it's a great car. I find this whole car reviews business extremely biased and disingenuous.
Maybe the tested a different version or had it for a longer period of time.
They had to change it for a reason

That might be the case, yes. Maybe they'll change the article soon to reflect these changed views. Eager to see what they found so grating about it before I take delivery of my car in Nov.

It's all subjective anyway as long as the car works for you and you enjoy it who cares what anyone else thinks👍

I care what expert reviewers think. They help narrow down the shortlist of cars/products to evaluate.
Of course, you have to find reviewers who you trust. Which is generally a case of comparing their reviews with your own experiences. Not an easy or quick thing to do. Easier in the case of movie reviews, of course.
A lot of elements of a review have to be subjective because there is no objective way of assessing them. A lot of people love the look of the Ioniq 5, for example. Whereas I think it looks awful.
Even efficiency is something that's difficult to objectively measure unless you strictly control the test conditions.
So, while it's not always true (over at AVForums, we objectively measure TV picture quality), reviews are largely subjective. Which is why you need to find reviewers you trust.

I usually start with the specs of any new car and then start digging up reviews for the ones I like. And I know biases exist. I personally wouldn't be seen dead near a Tesla, so my skin itches when I'm forced to sit in an MY my friend recently bought. In the case of IM5 though, the reviews have been all over the place. Some criticise the rude quality while others praise it, for example. Top gear called it the "most uncomfortable exec saloon", and when I drove it (twice) and then sat at the back while my friend was having a go, I couldn't help but wonder what the hell they were talking about. Did they not find the "comfort mode" right there?

It appears to be the case for most Chinese EV brands. Some reviewers like to sh*t on them excessively. I was still happy to see electrifying and a few others rate the IM5 highly and agreeing with everything I experienced in my 2 test drives + riding backseat as a passenger. But when they slyly just go and downgrade it from 8 to 6/10 without any explanation, you can't help but think they, like many other reviewers, have a conflict of interest somewhere.

Without getting political, I'll just say I never found those cars particularly comfortable. The new MY apparently has better ride quality but to me it looks awful.
Wel you can't really bring politics into it as China's would appear to be rather questionable going by the news

Was posted previously he didn't go above 50 mph on the motorway, still well done to be fair but not in any way accurate of real world driving
I can't find the 50mph figures anywhere. It seems like a rumour some fanboy of another brand started and spread like wildfire. Google maps seems to suggest a trip from Bonvilston in Wales (which is where he started I think) to St. Andrews takes about 9:20 if you leave on a Friday morning. He also mentions in the video that traffic around Midlands was bad. Plus the 2 breaks he took add up. From what they claim, he seems to be doing close to real-world driving.

Edit: I'm sorry if I seem to be defending this car too much. I'm obsessed with it right now. Hope it doesn't let me down when it finally arrives.

His trip was Bridgend to St Andrews which Google states is 8hrs 23 mins.
He took 10hrs 40 and they stopped the clock for his breaks.
It's still a good effort but real world speed is what counts

In the comments it mentions 60 mph on the motorway

462 miles / 10hrs 40 = 43mph, which believe me is the only way you could get close to that kind of efficiency figure. Most reviewers are getting between 2.5 and 3.5 mi/kWh. And I do really like the car :-) but it's not efficient.

I hope those figures are more from the performance models and standard has better efficiency. Only time with tell.

I've had my IM5 Platinum in Australia for a few days now. I'm in the hot tropics (34°C and a very harsh sun compared to the UK!) so the a/c has to work v. hard.

In a mix of work I'm overall seeing 3.7miles/kWh. In the city it's about 4.2+miles/kWh. Obviously I'm having a bit of fun while it's new, so that might improve a little?...

FWIW the HVAC system uses about 20% of the energy, a little more than I anticipated. The roof is an excellent UV filter, but still gets warm, and I expect when I clip in the sun shade and apply some IR reflective tinting I will see a slight improvement.

Their review is back to 8/10 again!

Hi have a question about the drivers display on the IM5 and I wonder if anyone can help me. The WLTP beside the range estimate has changed to DFRE.

What is 'DFRE' and why would it change? Many thanks!
