Hi all, together with other S5 owners in Singapore, we figured out a temporary fix. Turn off data in your car, and if that doesn’t fix it, do a factory reset and turn off data link right away. This prevents the car from pinging SAIC servers for the update. Your car should resume normal functionality, but no iSMART functionality.

On the way home last night my in my MGS5 the central entertainment screen went faulty - none of the buttons worked and when they did were very slow. Even when I try to change system on steering wheel the system would not work - Is this fault due to the fact that only last week I had my first 15,000 mile service and the garage was unable to reset the service mileage due to their WIFI was down. Is there something I can do to reset the entertainment system myself?

Just wondering, is it all different ages of the S5 mine was one of the first to come over and registered in April 2025 I believe, any chance it could be a batch thing as some seem alright?

If you read back through this thread, or, indeed, almost any posting on this thread, you'll see that it is a worldwide problem, nothing to do with your car.

Hi all,

Anyone had any issues with their infotainment systems today?
Mine was like it was possessed..laggy, failing to load, cameras not working and Android Auto not connecting no matter what.
I notice loads of similar reports in a S5 Facebook group and was wondering if anyone else here had had problems.
The prevailing suspicion is it's issues with MG servers in China...which raises the question "why would our cars' performance be influenced by an issue with Chinese servers?
Are they in constant communication?
If so, why?
Yes! Mine went in for an update as various niggly issues and it’s now 100 times worse!! Lagging, no navigation, radio all over the place!!

Thanks for the workaround. It's very worrying that it can effectively DoS the car over the network. Hopefully MG issue a formal statement soon!

Forgot to mention that this problem of slowing everything down, it seemed to have control over my headlights? I could not turn them to just sidelights even on sidelight setting they stayed on full beam

Has anyone tried the Factory Reset? See if it reboots with no bugs?
Hey, I did a factory reset yesterday (and hoped it would brick nothing, fortunatly no errors) and it was fine afterwards for maybe 5 min. Then startet to become buggy / unresponsive again. So I left it overnight, since more and more messages with this problem turned up. I have to say, first I thought it was a problem only with my car, very helpfull to see the posts here 👍

Today it was still a little slow in recognizing inputs. So I tried a normal restart (10 se. Home button) and since then all is fine again - knock on wood. No disabeling anything, Android Auto no isssue, just works again like it has been before. Hope it stays that way.

Switched off WLAN and seems to be better, parked up at the moment but will see when I leave here later. UK owner.

My WLAN has been off throughout, so that's not the solution.

Totally switching off data seems to be the answer.
