Hi folks,

I've had the car for a fortnight and overall I've been loving it. However, after a week I had the following errors appear on the dashboard on start up
  1. Acc System Unavailable
  2. Pedestrian Auto Emergency Braking Unavailable
  3. Auto Emergency Braking System Unavailable
  4. Forward Collision System Unavailable
Frustratingly, this prevented me from using the cruise control but the car drove as normal.

I spoke to the garage who asked me to check if the radar was being blocked. This is a rectangular box directly underneath the numberplate. I couldn't find anything blocking it but wiped it down with a dry cloth anyway, to no avail.

I also tried disconnecting the 12v battery for five minutes to see if this would clear the error, but no luck.

I booked it into the garage so they could take a look but they couldn't book us in until a week later.

Typically, two days later the system returned to normal but I had the garage check it out anyway.

The garage said they spoke to MG and loaded a "patch" to fix the issue. Seems unusual, but I understand there's a lot of software on these, so... fine.

Literally the next day the problem returned.

It's booked in to the garage again for Monday but I'm concerned it'll resolve itself again before then and we'll end up going around in circles.

Is the issues with the radar typical and should I expect it to do this from time to time?

Is there anything I can try to fix the issue myself?

Is there literally a patch that is meant to fix the issue or is the garage just pulling my chain?

Thank you for your time.

It's just the front camera either covered in frost outside or misted up inside.
It happens often this time of year and a good blast of the demister usually clears it after a while.

Hey, thank you very much for your reply. Where is the front camera? I thought it was the one above the number plate, which I've previously wiped down. There's a second one somewhere on the windscreen?

Also, I thought the acc and emergency collision were controlled by the radar, not the camera. I've had front camera errors when the car is misted or the weather is bad, but this normally only temporarily disables the lane keep assist and auto headlights; the cruise control normally works fine in these situations.

The car is still new and I'm still getting to grips with the tech, but I'm not sure this is the same issue as the camera being obscured

The camera above the number plate is for parking - part of the 360° view. The front camera for your problem is in the plastic housing behind the rear view mirror. The windscreen in that housing doesn't get the full force of the heater/blower and is prone to misting up inside and frost outside.

Radar is used for ACC but the camera is also required.

Okay thanks both I'll check it out. Typically the error has now cleared again, so I'll have to wait to try this if and when it appears again.

It did the same on the Gen 1 version also.
But the Gen 2 appears to be a little more sensitive.
Oh I don't know, my Gen 1 brings up these messages without fail at the slightest chance of mist or frost on the screen once you start moving.

Hey, there is any news about it?
I got this error too.
I ended up taking it back to the dealer and they apparently loaded another 2 patches on to the software.

I haven't had any further issues so fingers crossed it's sorted

Thanks for the heads up about the software patches. I'll hit up the dealer for a fix. I've had this happen on several occasions since delivery of the ZS EV version 2 here in Perth, Aust, since late January. Definitely no mist, frost or fogging issues that time of year.

Same problem here with my new MG ZS EV, 2 weeks new and this fault has occurred several times, this is obviously a known fault with the MG Pilot system yet dealers here in Australia are not applying the so called patch. This is a significant safety issue and should be rectified immediately by MG Australia. My Dealer in Penrith NSW are useless, contemptuous picks. Definitely won’t be taking my car to those idiots to get this fixed.

How clean is your front sensor?

If it's clean, there's not a lot you can do.

Mine throws this randomly.

Turn it off and on again is the only thing you can do until MG decide to do something about the sensitivity of whatever logic they have in their code to detect when it decides to stop trusting its own sensors.

Just a quick update folks. I sent my ZS EV in with the above error codes for them to investigate. They (MG Wangara) applied the software update on 2.6.23 and since then I've not had the issues above occur. I took hold of the car in late January and was told by the service department that there had been an update available since then, but they are not in the habit of notifying customers of the update. Go figure!

It may not be the root cause but I will request the garage to have the radar replaced to isolate the problem.

In almost any case of a reported fault by the customer, the dealer will be instructed ( by the manufacturer) to check and carry out any software updates BEFORE any parts are replaced.
Cars today are pretty much a computer on wheels and software issues / glitches are responsible for a lot of errors.

as far as I know the radar is sourced from Bosch, but of course not sure Bosch China, or Bosch Germany. They suppose to have the radar well calibrated and qc before delivering to SAIC, seem there is an occasional qc problem out there, and SAIC just trust the component rather than an overall qc

The 'out of alignment' thing seems a bit odd to me - the module has a fixed position in the car and I highly doubt there is any workshop procedure on file that involves taking the module out and adjusting anything in it.

I'm going to say it was the software update that made more of a difference.

Knowing what we do about MG's software flakiness, it's much more likely it's their own software's ability to reliably deal with the data it is getting from the module than the module itself.
