Hi

I’ve just purchased today the MG4 EV and it was the worst experience with a car dealership I’ve ever had but I’ve just noticed here is no handbook/service book.

Do you get one with the MG4?

You do, but it's in digital form, squirrelled away in the depths of the infotainment screen and (I think) the phone app. However, Sloucher to the rescue.

I can vouch for the high quality of these hard copies, and Sloucher's prompt service. I think they're invaluable.

Welcome to the forum, and the wacky world of the MG4. Love it or hate it, and I hope you love it. The forum provides ways to love it, by means of explanations for its foibles and workrounds for the things people find annoying.

Your dealer sounds atrocious. There are threads to comment about dealership experiences in General Chat. Go in and give them both barrels.

Cool at least it’s not something else I need to sort out with the dealer. So far loving the car been driving it loads tonight which isn’t the best idea as I don’t have a home charger yet but its an addictive drive.
Reading the forum, listening to the podcast I’m all in.

That link takes you through to the EU site which is fine if you are from there. Otherwise Sloucher does some hard copies at cost plus postage. You can also access the manuals through the app or in the car too.
You can also get the UK user manual from My MG | MG Motor UK. It's useful if you want to read the manual before you get the car.
The Infotainment manual isn't available from this web page.

I rather think the OP was referring to the service manual though.
I don't do hard copy of that as there would be no point. The dealers (apparently) no longer put physical stamps in a manual but simply register the service electronically.
Whether or not that indicates on any accessible (to the owner) online document, I'm afraid I don't know.

I am not sure either. On a Burl Solomons YouTube video where he goes through what you can do on the app when he clicks on the manual tab he seems to have as well as the car manual and sat nav manual in that tab it’s showing a service one too. I have looked at my app and I can’t see anything regarding the service one in mine.

You think so? I don't think I even had a service manual for my 2009 Golf, all the records were held by the garage. (Who wasn't a VW dealer, but did it all right, and I got a new engine under warranty when it blew up. VW tried to trip him up but he had all the records and they capitulated and gave me the new engine. This was in 2012.)

MG state:

"Every MG dealer is authorised to carry out service and maintenance work in conjunction with the terms of your vehicle's warranty. Your MG Dealer now also registers your car on the Digital Service Record platform, meaning that should you need to, you will be able to access the service history of your vehicle through a national database of MG dealers."

Also,
Service Manual
We discuss it here

I have. I asked my local garage who did all the work on my Golf, from brand new to write-off, and who did it so well that VW had to give me a new engine under warranty, even though they tried to invalidate it by trawling to find something he hadn't done quite to schedule.

He said, EVs are the way it's going. We're not EV specialists but we can do all the basic maintenance stuff. As he said that, someone in a Leaf pulled out of the forecourt with a cheery wave.

I'm going to ask him to fit the mud-flaps when they come, and the replacement bulbs in the reading lamps, and we can have a proper conversation about it. This garage is half a mile from my house. My dealer is about 25 miles away, in a "new car village" where there is nothing to do but look at car showrooms while you wait, and the words "courtesy car" have not passed anyone's lips.

Also I think their service plan is probably a rip-off.

I've paid a lot for a 3 year service plan with an MG authorised garage nearly 10 miles away but they will come and fetch it and return it, do all the updates and fill in the digital service record. It also includes the first MOT as well as keep the AA cover going which is worth £139 p/a.

If I had to pay for the same AA cover and the first MOT the local garage would have to do each annual service for £38 to cost the same and the digital record wouldn't be updated neither would the software.

The dealer I got my car from on there websites say if you buy an MG and register it in june then you get 2 year’s free service. The dealer didn’t know about the deal and now the manager said I can’t have as my car was discounted.
This is one of my problems, but my car wasn’t discounted I can see the price on my finance docs and nothing on the website.
Speaking to the customer satisfaction manager and he seems fantastic with this and everything else
I’m feeling like they’re fobbing me off

Might have guessed it was Cars2.

I had read that particular dealer on trust pilot had mixed reviews and when I looked at their website home page it was displaying particular offers but then when you clicked on them they were nowhere to be found.

Cars 2 is not too far from me but I went to Chorley Group after a PCP offer that Miles publicised offering 0% interest.

So far loving the car and no issues albeit reading through this forum I have been turning off the lane keep assist and emergency brake just putting these on to alert. I am particularly loving the AutoHold which is saving putting on the handbrake every time that you have to pull up in traffic. I only using the handbrake when I’m properly parked.
