This seems to be quite common when the car is new for all windows. After a few months, either people stop brushing the buttons by mistake or they bed in and become less sensitive. Either way it's not good if it rains heavily overnight.
Is it possible that when they didn't work you were using the rear door switches, and when they did work you used the front switches? If so I suspect the rear window isolator was illuminated and it was behaving as designed. If not, let's hope it was an isolated glitch
