Sensor was already there in respect of detecting the driver in the seat per seatbelt indication, so they've saved cost of additional Start/Stop switch by utilising an existing sensor?

It does put a lot of responsibility onto that sensor/switch. When the car does not "fire up " how many of us are going to see that as a first port of call ? in regards to solving the problem.

Is there a simple way of turning-off the DRLs when leaving the car with passengers inside. I'm always returning to my car to find the lights on. I'm sure it must annoy other people in car parks, too - wondering if my car is about to start moving when they want to leave their parking space.

No. Annoying isn't it. You also get people waiting thinking you are about the leave the space.

True re. HVAC etc. The movement in driver's seat comment is irrelevant to the question asked, as it was about leaving passengers in the car.

Also, if you power down, the 12v isn't charging.

You can have the radio on while powered down, not sure about any plugged in usb devices though.

If only it were so simple.
In my car (with R46), I have to:
1. Select the 'Car' icon,
2. Select the 'Safety' tab (because it's not selected by default as in the video)
3. Select the 'Power Off' button
4. Confirm that I want to power-off

More often than not, the touch screen doesn't respond to the first or even second attempt so I may have to prod 10 times, whereas on my previous cars I've only had to flick a switch.
MrsMK is most likely to complain in both winter and summer if the aircon can't be left on. Even my old ICE car allowed the fan to run to maintain some sort of residual heating or cooling.

Initially thought was a pain but now got used to it
Same as disabling the lane keep assist
Just got used to these things
