7 months ago my 23 plate MG4 trophy was almost written off.....I thought it was, the assessor said no. The front end was completely rebuilt by the insurers appointed bodywork specialist which took 3 months because of parts holdups. The car was then sent to an MG dealer to finalise electrical work, sensors etc. They had the car for nearly 3 months and I could see they were working on it because of all the warnings being sent to my phone on a daily basis....the most common faults being airbag and brake alarms. Eventually the car was returned 2 weeks ago and after less than a week a warning flashed up about the airbag and at the same time my steering completely went. It's still in the garage being investigated and I have no idea how long it will take.
Whilst the car was running, it was great, probably the best car I've ever had but this has knocked my confidence. Fortunately the steering went when I was in a car park. If the steering goes again, I could be on a motorway, on a roundabout or a twisty road.

I agree, and it's ongoing.

Oh dear. Hope it is a straightforward fix, or they accept that the car is unfixable.

Shame that cars get written off so easily these days, but you can see why...
No wonder insurance is so expensive these days.
Indeed, we had minor damage and it took the appointed bodyshop three weeks to sort it. We had an expensive courtesy car (as indeed we should have) in the meantime.

I'm surprised it wasn't a write off.. 6 months of hire car must have cost a fortune to the insurers!
I saw a video a while back regarding an Audi Q8 (think it was a Q8) and it had been written off with minimal damage due to the availability of parts and the cost of covering a hire car whilst waiting for parts to arrive (many on back order so no delivery dates).

It's absolute madness.

And with EV prices slumping I do wonder how there is any money to be made in repairing these minor write offs..

This 23 plate Cat-S SE, with just 7500 miles on the clock is being advertised for just £8250. Makes me wonder what the repairer picked it up for and how it was worth repairing it rather than splitting it for salvage (she says with her eye on a 51kWh LFP battery pack for a home storage conversion project ;) )
