I've had my car for a year now and have only just realised that there is no service booklet, or even maintenance schedule provided with it.
Does anyone have a link to a recommended maintenance schedule?

How about contacting your nearest dealer?

There is no service booklet, all the servicing stuff is held centrally by MG, pretty poor really, so when you get your car serviced ensure you get a full invoice for the work to keep if you need to sell at some point.

All my vehicles have been that way for a few years, including my motorcycles. Far better than a paper logbook which can easily be forged or fake service entries stamped in. Before selling a vehicle, just request the dealer to print out the service history, done that several times without issue. I would like to see physical driving licenses abolished (and maybe even physical passports), a simply fingerprint reader/facial/eye scanner used by police, car rental companies etc, just like the biometrics already in use for years for access to bank accounts, brokerage accounts etc.

As you are in NZ then your service schedule is probably the same as your Aussie cousins ... 2 years or 40k (?) km, whichever comes first.

I think it's 15,000 miles or yearly in the UK. I'm currently on 12,500ish and 10 months ownership so will need to do it soon. I'm curious though, does the car know when it needs a service and ping a reminder up on the screen? My partners smart car used to be quite insistent when it needed a service with a reminder every time it was switched on and her garage had to plug it into a diagnostic computer to clear the message after the service. Does the MG4 do the same? Mine is a lease with Tusker and it won't be going to an MG dealer - just their approved third party garage so I'm hoping they can clear any reminders?

Never exceeded the service mileage so cannot say what happens.

The manual says that the mileage remaining until the next service is shown in the settings panel within the driver's screen. Press the steering wheel centre right button, toggle left/right until the settings page and then up/down to get the the service mileage to go.

(Message to self: must look as the manual implies you can adjust the backlight display level {luminance}).

Yes - it gives you a countdown in the last 1000 miles before it is due (no idea about the time as I've always got to 15,000 miles well inside a year!).

Yes you can. Sometimes it'll reset itself to a higher brightness but it's easy to return it to lowest (which I prefer).

Note: this is for the driver display, not the Infotainment screen.
