I have seen quite a few posts about software versions, especially the lane assist. I'm picking up a second hand mg4 soon and the dealer has said that the car currently has

MPU software version- SWI69-29958-1100R21

MCU software version- 69.3.5.0

I think these might need an update? But I really wasnt sure from lots of reading!

Its an se trim, 2 year service due in may 2026.

Thanks

thanks both - is it worth booking in the 2 year service early?

Is there a way to phrase it so that it is covered by the warranty?

is the SC077 part of R38 or is that a seperate update (and how can I check if it has been done)?

Thanks again

Unclear, although mg seem to suggest that 2 years is the requirement?

They have, I'm writing, said that it is still under warranty from MG, dated from May 2024.

SC077 is separate and should be done when the car is presented for servicing. (SC = Service Campaign)

If you are buying from a dealer I'd make software updates part of the contract of sale. 🤷‍♂️
It's not an MG dealer (car360) , can they do the update?

No - only an MG dealer can do updates.

MG servicing must be done every 15,000 miles or 12 months - whichever comes first. Without proof of the first service having been done at 12 months you must assume the warranty is not valid. Only an MG dealer can check this as it is held online.

Thanks for replying.

So that means that any second hand car, unless bought from an MG dealer, can't be assured of the warranty being in effect? That seems odd!

I'm in a similar position to you. Bought a 2nd hand MG4 from a "non dealership". 73 plate. Spotted a problem with the rear sensors. Went to the local dealer, they said it was still under warranty (looked the reg up). (I have no paperwork ) I'm in the process of getting it repaired, and having the 2nd yr service. So at least on the right ladder

We're you given any reassurance prior to purchase? Or was it just luck?

Just luck I guess. I have a 3month warranty with my "non dealership", but with so much software, they can't do any of that.

I think if you booked the service (even a bit early) you'll be buying a bit of good will from the dealership. After all the warranty is transferable.

As in, contact local mg dealer and say I want to book my 2 year service early?
