MG4 X Power Vibe/Hum 65 to 75mph

Of the 1500 UK X powers what ratio have this "characteristic" and why are the others missing out ?
That's the argument as to why its a fault. ( one way or the other ) It is most likely the same ratio with European versions and Australian X powers. I am not a X power owner and have not had any problems with mine but I have little confidence in the MG hierarchy due to the pathetic responses given to people on this thread , which of course will affect any future acquisition decisions.
I think it's hard to gauge the ratio. Personally I've driven 3 X-Powers (one of which was my own) - 2 two had the vibrations and one was perfect. Also it seems that some cars suffer worse than others (there are videos of cars with the whole dash & rear view mirror shaking violently).

The friendly master tech at my local dealer said that when he was on X-Power specific training at MG UK head quarters in 2023, all the x-powers they drove had the vibration as the technicians discussed it with each other at the time (I can't remember if he said they had 5 or 8 cars on the training).

Mine has a very slight vibration that starts around 65 but, to be honest, I only really notice it when I'm on an unusually smooth road. Given the appalling state of most of the roads I travel on, it's hard to detect it over the noise and vibration coming through from the suspension and tyres.
Keeping the tyre pressure high also helps with the vibration but not the ride comfort...

Funny they don't all do it then. Funny none of the single-motor models fo it.
It's also strange they do it to varying degrees, the one I had felt like holding a hammer action drill.

I think in some part it feels worse if the wheel balance/alignment is out and the tyre pressures are low which obviously speaks to how good the dealers have prepared the cars

Maybe it's to due with flat spots (from standing for months before sale) exciting the real problem, which is (front) driveshafts set at an excessive angle - plus the type of CV joints used in those driveshafts. A perfect storm?

That might explain, at least to a degree, that (seemingly) replacing the tyres/balancing and using higher tyre pressures helps alleviate the problem?

I think the reason i got my fix was Australian consumer laws are very very nasty to businesses to some point even the customer has better rights than a business ..

And also the novelty of the first fix in AUS ( to my knowledge )

Maybe also the volume is low in Aus too

I mean I see MG4s every day almost; they're quite popular now here. BUT few to no X powers; i don't even see them in show rooms anymore or on lots. it's as if MG Aus said nah we don't need the BS ..

Really sorry to hear that you are basically experiencing the identical treatment that I had in April 2024. I did the same and put in a rejection request within days of buying the new car - the dealer had it for 6+ weeks during this process (gave us an MG5 to use). At this point car only had 200 miles on the clock!

Long story short, MG pulled the characteristic card and so to progress from this point, it would have required reports from specialists and legal action to reject (it is obvious from the substantially delayed group rejection legal action that this is far from straight forward and carries financial risk for an individual).

Dealer was actually really unhappy with MG UK's response and did try their best to help (fitted decent Michelin tyres which improved the vibes noticeably and improved the car in all other areas).

Car has now done 18k miles and oddly, the vibrations have lessened to the point where sometimes they are completely unnoticeable at motorway speeds.

Anyway, MG UK's response was nothing short of disgusting and condescending (I have numerous e-mails from them stating the vibrations are normal on any 'performance' car etc etc) and personally this alone would stop me buying another SAIC car. I too have advised friends and family to steer clear of MG products plus they lost a sale of a Cyberster to my father who was close to putting down a deposit until my experiences.

It's a real shame as the car is incredible value for money and apart from this issue & the appalling software, we really like it (just as well really given it's now worth around £7!)
Thanks. Yeah, they obviously have this process pinned down now. Delay tactics while they make it look like they are trying to resolve it then come back with the same BS it started with. Then tell porkies to the finance company.

The “feedback from the road surface” bit really grates me (pardon the pun) as you could be driving over glass and it would do it.

I’m absolutely amazed that Santander won’t do anything because the manufacturer says it’s not a fault. Ultimately it’s their car if I choose to hand it back at the end.

Mine is so much better now, there is no point in me pursuing it thankfully. I’m still tempted to do a charge back on my credit card in revenge but it’s so mild now it would really just be to make a point. I got my brother, who has been a mechanic for 25+ years, to drive it after I got it back, and he reckons it’s nothing to worry about long term damage wise and I’ve had the balancing done since on his advice!

I’m just glad I can enjoy the car now and don’t feel the need to go to war over it!

I have driven one, had it for an extended test drive, and it had it really bad.
Mentioned it to the sales guy and he said I was only noticing it because EVs are so smooth and quiet and an ice car hides the vibrations because of the engine. I just laughed and walked away
You know I think that’s probably why they think they can get away with it!

Mine was really bad but now it’s just like it’s got an engine and a very minor wheel balance problem. If someone drove my car as it is now and they had never driven an EV before they would never know it wasn’t right.

They gave me a MG3 hybrid for two weeks. What an odd car that is to drive… perhaps that’s changed my perception of vibration 😂 It was actually rather good for the money to be fair.

Statistically you should have seen 13 in 8 months - but the other 9 were at the dealers having vibration issues investigated ;)

(sorry - couldn't resist!)
I saw a 74 plate one charging at IKEA in Cardiff today. It was a Tango orange one!! First I’ve seen since I bought the rampant rabbit!

Agree, X Power's are still rare. I've seen about 4 in the 8 months I've had mine.
🙂👍

Even after I bought mine for ~£38K and then they were brand new on AutoTrader Dealers for £27K a few months later!

Still really rare to see - but then my first years insurance was £1,500 and now it’s £900 (just renewed).

That’s kind of like mine is now. It was bloody terrible when I first got it though! The whole car would shake, I could see the steering wheel shaking, my fingers shaking on the wheel and the passenger seat shaking.

On top of that it felt like the entire car was accelerating and decelerating slightly. The “master technician” even gestured it to me (a bit like walk like an Egyptian by the Bangles) 😂.
