That document with the stage two fix in it has an a vehicle off-line brake point of 21st February 2024, so wouldnโt that mean my car already has it from the factory and also the damper fitted for that matter? If so it doesnโt work, not always. This is the problem, MG at the time launched a car that could compete with most other ones on the market it was a budget car and there were some short cuts in materials and other little things you take for granted in other cars (rear interior lights spring to mind)
But they launched it at a price point that took some beating. For the most part the car is a success, right up until you have an issue then it is just an absolute carry on to try and get stuff fixed.
My wife's company leased 20 odd trophies and everyone one of them has had a variety of issues and time of the road. The company will not be taking MGs again and I am sure that will be the case with a lot of owners.
If you get a good one great, if it's got issues then good luck but the arguments to get stuff looked at mean the 7 year warranty is hardly worth mentioning.
The X power is so close to being a brilliant car, there is nothing at that price point that comes close in performance. Have they fixed the issue in newer cars (the expensive fix mentioned) or have they just managed to mask it and all the while there may be some abnormal wear going on in the background, I guess people will find out in a year or two, when all the parts have probably dropped of the warranty.
MG UK must think people are stupid to try and fob them off with the characteristic crap.
The What Car reliability/after sales survey doesn't lie unfortunately

One of the great mysteries is why a certain percentage of cars both RHD and LHD do not have the problem. The earlier cars suffered more , but not all. The later cars less so but obviously some do!That document with the stage two fix in it has an a vehicle off-line brake point of 21st February 2024, so wouldnโt that mean my car already has it from the factory and also the damper fitted for that matter? Perhaps , and its a guess? that better quality parts ( rubber silent blocks for example ) were incorporated into the later cars with a better more scrupulous screwing together of the rear of the car, but as the model is coming to the end of its run they have reverted to using up the old stock of naff parts which have been lying in a parts bin getting dusty.
As nowadays most " buyers " lease and then hand the car back MG ( SAIC ) are most likely going to try to tough it out with their responses , which will leave the secondhand market flooded with a faulty stock of X powers for unsuspecting new owners thinking " this is a bargain price " and then having even less comeback when discovering the vibes. Will MG be bothered , most likely not.
Have a look at a used Genesis GV60 Sport, that's what I bought after a 5 month battle to reject my XPower. Sad to see it go but the vibes were just awful, great car otherwise.Still have 18 months on the lease for mine, but I suspect a fully loaded Renault 5 (or A290) or an Ioniq 5 will be high on my list of test drives, as used these will be in the under ยฃ30k bracket by then.
Hence the reason the arse has dropped out the price of nearly new X Powers, there are an awful lot of year old or less on the market, it would appear people are getting rid of themOne of the great mysteries is why a certain percentage of cars both RHD and LHD do not have the problem. This is one of the reasons I gave when I said I was rejecting mine. The warranty is basically worthless as they wonโt repair them now and most of the things itโs likely to cause a problem with later are only covered for 4 years. As they wonโt fix this, what excuses will they come up with later to get out of warranty claims.Hence the reason the arse has dropped out the price of nearly new X Powers, there are an awful lot of year old or less on the market, it would appear people are getting rid of them
Good old Autotrader value manipulation in action lol.Wouldn't go as far as to say, the arse has dropped out of the prices of nearly new X Power's. Certainly no worse than any other manufacturer. But there are some fantastic bargains, to be had, if you do your homework, have a long test drive and check everything, which you should do anyway, as a matter of course.
As a footnote, I see the ยฃ39,000 X Power, on AutoTrader, hasn't sold yet.![]()
Yep! I suppose the one factor that might massively affect used values is boy racers.Yep, if you are aware of the problem, and probably most are by now, then you do all the checks needed. A long test drive, including a long drive on the motorway, is an absolute must. If everything checks out, and youโre satisfied then buy it. And enjoy, I doubt you'll be disappointed. And as far as future value, and this goes for all makers, don't worry about it, you can't do naff all about it. Just enjoy the bloody thing.![]()
I toasted a Fiesta ST that didnโt like being overtaken and tried to stop me getting back in on a dual carriageway a couple of days ago. Iโd bet my life he was on Google later that day trying to find out what it was! His girlfriend was in the passenger seat too bless him![]()
.........I really feel for anyone that paid the full price for one with this problem and it wasnโt on a lease!
alternatively... you could buy a 2nd hand XPower insteadLesson learnt though ... next EV will be leased
What benefit does that give? Will it be cheaper or more expensive than PCP?Lesson learnt though ... next EV will be leased![]()
Leasing on certain EVs has some great deals, just depends on the current deals at the timeWhat benefit does that give? Will it be cheaper or more expensive than PCP?
