So an update on my car as I’ve not been on here a while…
Santander called me and said they can’t do anything as MG said it’s not a fault. They incorrectly said I couldn’t reject it as it’s not a fault but a ‘characteristic’, even though I did so well within the 30 day period (which is locked in btw as everyone involved agrees I did).
I explained the situation and they then elaborated and said MG knows a document is in circulation but it isn’t a fault and is due to feedback from the road surface (which we all know is bollocks as the road surface make no difference). I then said MG are clearly lying as they wouldn’t have come up with such an elaborate fix for something that they intended by design. I also said if 30% of them spontaneity combusted would the finance company accept that as a characteristic; to which she said “I see your point but if MG say it’s not a fault we can’t do anything”. She did go on to say I could send them the document about the fault and they would assess it.
Anyway, for whatever reason my car is much better after they had it that two weeks and apparently did nothing to it (they definitely did but probably don’t want me telling people what it was). I had the tracking and balancing checked independently afterwards and one wheel was out which has improved things even more since that was rebalanced.
I’m now happy enough with the car that were I not aware of the issue I’d not have been disgruntled in the first place. It’s still got the problem but it’s very mild.
I’m now in a place I can enjoy the car, but after the call with the finance company, it took a lot of soul searching to fight the anger of the wrong doing and it completely ruining the car!
I’ll never buy an MG again and I’ll make damn sure nobody I know or bump into on the internet has a good impression of them. It’s a bit of a shame as I loved my SE and am now as happy as I can be with my XPower. But I have to actively steer people away from them after this experience
Edit: I’m not going to be a dick about it. Buying a new car is exciting and waiting for something you already ordered is even more exciting. My experience already stopped two of my colleagues buying one and a third was really impressed by my car and I put her off even going to a showroom… I’ve probably cost MG more money than fixing my car properly already!
