MG5 scheduled charging

Car is new mg S5 trophy long range
Don’t know what EVSE is.,.
Problem I have is any time so solar isn’t relevant inasmuch as EV charger draws from the battery only whether on a sunny day or at night. Battery storing combination of solar and cheap rate electricity. Thanks.

EVSE is the correct term for what everybody calls the 'charger' on the wall. Just for info for any new EV'ers the charger is actually in the car, and the EVSE/'charger' for simplicity is a big switch.

EVSE is Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment

If we're being accurate there also electronics for generating the PWM signal used to tell the car how much power the EVSE is capable of supplying.etc

Most of the more recent ones will have some form of Microcontroller/Single board computer in them for the "smart" features like scheduled charging, charge with excess solar.etc.

So whilst they're not super complex devices there is a little more to them than just a "Big switch".

Mostly putting that there incase someone thinks they can just throw a 32A breaker in with a cable directly to a Socket and expect it to work.

Although it is possible to install a 32amp Commando socket and use that. But perhaps that wouldn't be the best/safest option.

Not on its own, you'd still need an EVSE of some kind to do the signalling.
Of course but they are easy enough to find and final all in cost would probably be cheaper than a 'box on the wall'

I’ll need to check that. But all solar currently goes into battery. Loads from house and EV charge are drawn from battery.
