MG5 system fault

Hi everyone,

I've had my 2022 MG5 for about three months, and put about 5000 miles on it so far. The car's been amazing, but today it has starting showing a "System Fault" error.

I've also lost the use of the radio, heated seats, and all of the driving aids - ACC, lane assist and collision sensor.

Before all of this happened, I noticed that the radio was playing up. Could it be down to the hot weather? (nearly 30 degrees where I live at the moment)

Would disconnecting 12v battery help? (which terminal do you take off?)

Or could the fault be cleared with an OBD reader?

I would do a hard reset first, I.e. disconnect the minus terminal of the 12V aux battery.

Reconnect it after few minutes, start the car and turn the steering wheel to both extremes to clear the errors.

It could be a fault with the 12V battery. What does the 12v battery read when you are in 'ready' mode? 13.5-14.5v?

Hiya. The battery reads 14.0v.

Disconnecting the 12v negative terminal seems to have sorted the problem. Is this a normal problem?

Sadly it seems to be the only fix for some of MG's flaky software

I don't know if we should call it a normal but it is the first thing my dealer will try if there is anything wrong with the car. I've only had it done once in 2 and a bit years but my dealer suggested I do it myself if anything odd happens again.
Also worth noting - when the car is in that bad state it can also be draining the 12v battery while it is turned off. It's best to get it sorted quick (and carry a jump start pack)

I carry a small back up battery which is like having a jumpstart, bit like a mobile phone back up battery loads advertised on ebay and amazon (well worth having) about £20 -30

Luckily I carry a socket set in the car
