Hi everyone,

I've had my 2022 MG5 for about three months, and put about 5000 miles on it so far. The car's been amazing, but today it has starting showing a "System Fault" error.

I've also lost the use of the radio, heated seats, and all of the driving aids - ACC, lane assist and collision sensor.

Before all of this happened, I noticed that the radio was playing up. Could it be down to the hot weather? (nearly 30 degrees where I live at the moment)

Would disconnecting 12v battery help? (which terminal do you take off?)

Or could the fault be cleared with an OBD reader?

Many thanks in advance 😁👍

I would do a hard reset first, I.e. disconnect the minus terminal of the 12V aux battery.

Reconnect it after few minutes, start the car and turn the steering wheel to both extremes to clear the errors.

It could be a fault with the 12V battery. What does the 12v battery read when you are in 'ready' mode? 13.5-14.5v?

Hiya. The battery reads 14.0v.

Disconnecting the 12v negative terminal seems to have sorted the problem. Is this a normal problem? 😁
I don't know if we should call it a normal but it is the first thing my dealer will try if there is anything wrong with the car. I've only had it done once in 2 and a bit years but my dealer suggested I do it myself if anything odd happens again.
Also worth noting - when the car is in that bad state it can also be draining the 12v battery while it is turned off. It's best to get it sorted quick (and carry a jump start pack)

Hi
I carry a small back up battery which is like having a jumpstart, bit like a mobile phone back up battery loads advertised on ebay and amazon (well worth having) about £20 -30

Hi everyone,

I'm back needing assistance, as the dealership I bought the car from is saying that the battery failing in the first three months, is now under warranty, as it is a wear and tear item....happy days.

I was wondering where's the best place to get a battery from, and are they hard to fit? And can taking the 12v battery off the car, cause other problems?

Many thanks in advance 👍

Is that a main MG dealership?. Pretty poor show not to honour a failed 12V battery after only 3 months, IMHO.

I'd get straight back and say that is not an acceptable response and politely tell them that they will be named and shamed on here if they don't come up with a better offer - maybe a 50% reduction on a replacement could be a compromise?

Now you're never going to use them again either - what do these people think they can get away with?

P.S. My OH said he has used Tayna batteries on several occasions and pleased with them
(www.tayna.co.uk)

Second Tayna for batteries, I and family have used before and highly recommend. Batteries are generally easy peasy to fit, often just one nut to release after disconnecting terminals.

I suspect you could get one from Tayna.co.uk delivered for less than 50% of the cost of a new one from the dealer. :)

Just disconnected the battery and got loads of error messages, so when I reconnect the battery I turn the steering wheel hard left then right, after pressing the start button?
