MG5 Washer Jets Freezing

Mine did the same today except I washed the inside of the windscreen. There is a joint in the pipe feeding the rear washer behind the plastic trim on the driver side a pillar. The trim is clipped in place so can be popped of. Put a cable tie around the rubber joint to hopefully make it grip a bit more.

I had similar today. Tried to wash the rear windscreen and ended up washing the accelerator pedal when it started pouring down from behind the dash. ? I love this car but it tries my patience sometimes.

As for how to reduce the freezing issue........
Until the 5 Trophy arrives next week, my Renault Megane and Renault Trafic are using neat Halfords "-20 concentrated screenwash" plus 0.5lt of meths in their 4.5lt washer tanks. No problems in Shropshire last Thursday when it was down to -11 degC.
Just to add that the neat Halfords -20 failed to stop the jets freezing when it was an indicated -8 degC, hence the addition of meths. Downside is that the cabin can be a bit smelly, nothing you can't cope with but a small price to pay for clear vision.

If the jets are frozen back pressure can push apart any joints in the pipe which might explain why people are having problems, i.e. one problem causing another problem

Thank you so much for this post! Mine came dislodged yesterday and after tracing the pipe form the bonnet all the way through and swearing a lot, I came on here and saw your post. Saved me a few £££s going to the garage and all working now.

I have had the same issue with my MG5 EV after the recent cold weather. I ended up getting my feet wet when trying to wash the rear window! I called our local MG dealer and he said they've had lots of similar issues and can't fit me in for more than a week. It's obviously a design fault which they will hopefully repair under warranty, as the car is only 9 months old.

I've been fortunate and not suffered this so far this winter (or last). Thankfully I must have a strong enough concentrate in the washers as the car lives outside - no garage. Not something I really thought about just followed the instructions on the bottle. I will be thinking about it in future though following this thread.

I have a rear window washer pipe disconnect just under the Battery charger/controller box in the engine compartment on the driver side. The problem is i can see it but due to cables etc I can only get 2 fingers of one hand to it so i cannot reconnect it. I have tried various home made tools to get at it but it seems that the only way is to disconnect various cables which I am reluctant to do under garrauntee conditions.

Has anyone else had the junction open up and found a way of reconnecting it?

Just book it into your local MG dealer and they will fix it under warranty for free. My local dealer said they had fixed dozens this winter due to the frost.

Thanks @Dino and others here. I keep my car pretty clean, so it took a while to discover that the rear wash wasn't working and about a month to remember to research accessing the rear hose connection So today was the day and I tugged and tugged to no avail. So I swallowed hard and gave it a good yank on one side. OMG what a noise! I thought that I had cracked the plastic cover, but no, all was well and another yank on the other side brought the whole panel off. Hose was easily found and reconnected, plus a bit of tape in an attempt to make it harder to separate in future. The white fibre insulation is now hanging on the line as it would seem that it has been leaking for quite a while ? In the meantime I will move the blue clips from the panel back to the hatch and it looks like it should be quite straightforward to refit ?

My premix is supposedly effective down to -25. What is worth remembering is the wind chill factor as the fine spray hits the windscreen. A liquid might stay fluid in a container, then freeze in the screen when used. Yep, I found out the hard way!

I've not had the halfords -20 premix freeze on me yet. But other stuff has frozen the nozels and then smeared salt across my vision instead. That was a fun commute.

I've used the Halfords concentrate for years in all my cars, using it dilute in the summer and neat in the winter. So far, it's been fine.

I have just got the same problem. How easy is it to remove the a pillar trim?

My wife has just sent me a video of her pressing the wiper button and water shooting into car from drivers pillar!

This evening's job then. Hope easy fix

If anyone has any info on where to push, pull, prod on the trim that would be great!

Well, it looks like this has happened to me. Ive got a wet foot, i just worry about getting wet connections inside the dash. Ill have a look at removing the cover on the pillar and take some pictures while im at it.

Hopefully sorted mine out, this is the culprit, you can see the the nozzle completely pulled out of the tube! Speaker connector in foreground.

To get to it, if you run your fingers behind the black rubber strip you can pry the top of the cover out a little, then there is this black clip which you need to push the black tab down on the far side then slide it out, then you can gently make your way down the cover gently pulling it out, only push clips from then. I then disconnected the speaker. I had puddles of water to mop up as much as I could down in the gaps. Hair drier on the area for a bit. I've cabled tied the hose, and then poured some neat concentrate down the washer top up just incase!
