Well have an interest, whole car thing has been finalised this end, welcome Auric Goldfinger, the new MG S6 Trophy Long Range, it’s been a bit of a journey but we got there, initially drawn to the MG IM6 Launch edition but the change in luxury car tax said no, then thought the S6 dual motor but so many reviews did not recommend it, “ who wants to do 0 - 60 in 5.1 seconds in a family car?”. So after a week in, welcome Auric, happy trails. Just waiting for the black badges to arrive. We'd best ask @PeterHR2![]()
Well, after around a 180 mile 'test drive' home from the depths of Lancashire I am impressed. Got home with 91 miles 'in the tank'. Efficiency read 3mi/kWh (used the Comfort setting and no. 2 in regen). Seeing it wasn't the warmest of days and I wasn't reticent about flooring it to overtake on the M6 and M56, not too bad really. Good ride. Loved the HDU in unfamiliar territory. Loved the blind spot detection (first time I've driven a vehicle with it). My Pixel 7 Pro charged wirelessly with (and without) it's clear case fitted. But car not set up for my phone yet, so haven't checked things like AA. I did turn auto dip headlights off when I got onto A and B roads. This did work better than it did in my MG5, but I think my anticipation of oncoming vehicles, particularly on bends and cresting roads, is better by a fraction of a second or so.We'd best ask @PeterHR2![]()
I, too, was looking for an AWD version so I could finally consider parting with a sometimes troublesome 16-yr-oldWell have an interest, whole car thing has been finalised this end, welcome Auric Goldfinger, the new MG S6 Trophy Long Range, it’s been a bit of a journey but we got there, initially drawn to the MG IM6 Launch edition but the change in luxury car tax said no, then thought the S6 dual motor but so many reviews did not recommend it, “ who wants to do 0 - 60 in 5.1 seconds in a family car?”. “It places a slight strain on the eyes after a while: placing one hand in front of the DCD to give relief for the eyes gives a noticeable increase in visibility looking forward through the windscreen (though it was never what I'd call bad). But the real issue with it is looking right at junctions: the internal reflections mean views to the right are the deepest black imaginable. I put up with it on the drive back, but if it means it needs me to manually switch to dark mode (if there is one) then that is what I will do.”Well, after around a 180 mile 'test drive' home from the depths of Lancashire I am impressed. Hated the 'amber cup', so the weekend will be about working my way through all the submenus in the infotainment system and setting up MG Pilot to get rid of that option. I didn't mind the speed limit bongs. But when 'everyone' seems to be doing at least 80mph on the motorway, it does start to get a bit intrusive. I'd love it if there's an option to not set the speed limit reminder for the national speed limit ;-) but to set it for other limits.
And I'm hoping a proper delve into the settings will solve the only major issue (so far) that I have with the S6 (though in truth it is a known problem in other MG and non-MG models): infotainment screen and driver cluster display (DCD) brightness. I found the infotainment screen brightness set on minimum just about acceptable (though I'd prefer it dimmer than it seemingly can go), this doesn't seem to be the case with the DCD on first look. Its brightness is not an issue in well lit environs (though like the infotainment screen I'd prefer it dimmer there), but go rural and/or little or no street lighting and the brightness/reflection from the DCD is a real issue. It places a slight strain on the eyes after a while: placing one hand in front of the DCD to give relief for the eyes gives a noticeable increase in visibility looking forward through the windscreen (though it was never what I'd call bad). But the real issue with it is looking right at junctions: the internal reflections mean views to the right are the deepest black imaginable. I put up with it on the drive back, but if it means it needs me to manually switch to dark mode (if there is one) then that is what I will do. That, or I'll invest in some white LightDims or similar.
Thankfully I've now found dark mode, and it will suit my purpose.“It places a slight strain on the eyes after a while: placing one hand in front of the DCD to give relief for the eyes gives a noticeable increase in visibility looking forward through the windscreen (though it was never what I'd call bad). Good news is once set dark mode will be the standard for use, never liked the white version in my x power, one of the first things we sorted at the handover.
Unlike the mg4 it does not have a digital subwoofer but the standard sound can be much improved customising the equaliser settings and the positioning of the sound output. So I've just jumped from a S5 to a S6 and a couple of things..
Either my subwoofer (if it has one) is not working or the stereo system is very poor
No usb near the rearview mirror for a dashcam, like in the S5...really MG?
And to hardwire one, you have to dismantle the panels by the driver's legs to get to the internal fuse box!
For a bigger car, the storage under the floor in the boot is nonexistent...again worse than the S5, which has loads..
Not a huge fan of the retractable tonneau cover...just feels a bit cheap..
Drives great and mobile phone car-kit is miles better than the one in the S5.
Also, according to the manual, it supports OTA updates ... we'll see ....
Oh and sod all accessories currently available on MG Titan etc..
And I had to take out new insurance as Allianz didn't recognise the reg or model...and neither did Green Flag....
I have played around with the equaliser and sound category settings, but it seems impossible to get anything remotely resembling decent bass, particularly from the DAB radioUnlike the mg4 it does not have a digital subwoofer but the standard sound can be much improved customising the equaliser settings and the positioning of the sound output.
Regarding dashcam fitting, I fitted mine earlier this week using an OBD lead, very simple install works perfectly and much easier than using the fuse box option.
Just posted a thread on the forum which should hopefully explain all.I have played around with the equaliser and sound category settings, but it seems impossible to get anything remotely resembling decent bass, particularly from the DAB radio
An OBD dashcam fitting?
I wasn't aware something like that even existed.. Where did you get it from and how did you run it please?
