MG4 platform hasn't changed - it is a mid-life refresh only. Presumably it will come when the MG4 is replaced with a new RWD/AWD platform car.

Yep know that. Was curious why they didn't put one in from new. 2022. As they are now putting them in cheaper MGs. 🤷‍♂️

As I said, they didn't think the benefit was worth the cost. With the new platform and heat scavenging and weight saving and more, clearly they now do think it is worth the cost. Probably also cheaper for them to do now than it was when the MG4 launched.

It is my observation that sometimes people who aren't sure have subconsciously already made up their mind not to buy, but they are looking for a good reason or justification. Then they go asking questions and find reasons aplenty.
I made an informed decision. I ordered one! ;)

Here's confirmation that the UK MGS6 does not have a heat pump

I took a photo of the sticker of the unit behind the dash and ran it through Google Translate, its a PTC heater control unit. However it does have HV orange cables running to it so it's not a 12V unit and wont drain the 12V battery while its on even if the car is not in Ready.

Is there no other device in the vehicle somewhere?

I was under the impression that most modern evs that are fitted with a heat pump also retain a high-voltage PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) heater as either:

A cold-weather backup, or rapid warm-up booster, rapid defrost/demist assist etc..

Don't know about that, its just what I found behind the dash, thats all.

Some do, some don't. Here in Norway the MGS6 has a heat pump. But in terms of efficiency, range and ability to heat up the cabin, the difference is miniscule. In fact, a heat pump just adds more parts (that can fail) and needs more service. For the climate you have in the UK, I'd rather have one without a heat pump if I could choose.
