Hello.
I collect my MG5 at the end of March and BP Pulse are contracted by Motability to install a home charger. Reviews that I have read about Pulse leave a lot to be desired.
Has anyone had a motability electric car or a pulse home charger?
If so, how was your experience?

I believe Mobility also have link with Ohme as BP can't cope so maybe worth going down that route.

Hi Steve, We also have a MG5 on Motability, and a BP pulse charger, BP Pulse were a compete pain too deal with, they are supposed to just send an engineer to assess what is needed, and the position you want the charger placed, and then they fit it, we were asked for "MORE INFORMATION"?? I sent them photos of the position for the charger, electrical routing for the wiring from the consumer unit, and still they wanted "MORE INFORMATION" I finally lost my rag and said SEND THE BLOODY ENGINEER, He finally arrived and said that it would be an easy install, a couple of days passed and the contractor arrived and installed it in about an hour, Ps. Motability ONLY use BP !

How wonderful to hear from someone in the same position! I hope you are living the MG5 after the hassle.
I've already had a visit from our electricity supplies who will "unloop" our supply an install an isolator switch. BP have already said that is all that is needed so hopefully once Western Power have done their bit, BP will go ahead - they've already called me a couple of times to update me so let's hope it continues. Are you pleased with the car and driving electric?
Steve

Hi Steve, I must say that the car has exceeded my expectations, it is comfortable, so easy to get used to, and very quick, " if you want it to be", and having the home charger is so convenient, I have also raised the boot floor, to make it easier to load, and nicer for our two dogs.

Hi Bodger,
That's wonderful to hear as I'm still having slight doubts. Have you tackled any long journeys during the cold spell and, if so, how did it go for range?
Steve

Hi Steve, I have not used the car as yet for any long journeys, but what I have noticed is that due to the cold, using the heater/ rear widow demister constantly greatly reduces the range, which is to be expected due to everything being electric.

I had the same problem, picked car up on 30th Dec 2021. After 11 contacts via phone or email, photos of nearly every part of my house, inside and out, the engineer turned up on the 11th April. Took him about an hour and a half to fit. No problems with charger as of yet.

Absolute nightmare. I had a multitude of problems just getting the thing installed and since then it has NEVER worked as a 'smart' charger. It will not charge on a schedule at all. BP are a rip off company they have changed my unit and now tell me their only option is to attach a timer to my circuit as they cant fix the problem. Now they are telling me my unit can't take a timer (which is BS of course) and they now plan on replacing my unit with an older unit which can then have a timer fixed to it??? They have the worst customer service I have ever encountered and don't even have a complaints dept. I too had the Motobility install but if I had the choice I would pay for the install myself and get a proper functional charger. BP (Chargemaster) are terrible. PLEASE re consider using them for your own sake unless a dumb charger is all you need. The chargers they are installing won't schedule and are not even on the Gov. approved list I found. A total rip off.

Hi
I would try an easee charger I was in for BP Pulse and they wanted to dig my new £6000 drive up . The easee charger has been supplied and fitted with no probs

That would be a dream as OHME are great, but NO if you have an MG, Motobility will use BP exclusively. I have been forced to buy an Ohme charging lead as its the only way I can schedule my charge. Very expensive fix but if you need a schedule its the only way if you have a BP Chargemaster. BP will do nothing to help you be warned.

Just an update on my charger with BP.
I have to admit, I'm impressed so far as they keep in constant touch via email.
The required preparatory work is being completed next Tuesday and BP have assured me that no further documents or photos are needed, other than the isolation switch when fitted.
They have suggested that their "smart" charger should be fitted by the 22nd March, when I hope to collect my motability car.
So far, so good - keeping my fingers crossed.

My wife ordered her car July 2021 took Bp until September(3 Months) to say they couldn't supply because we are on a looped system and their unit cant be fitted and our Yorkshire DNO wanted £2000 to unloop us so we paid for a Zappi charger that had load balancing ended up costing us £850 of which Motability gave her £250 towards it, Motability changed their website about then to say you could pay to have your own fitted, she uses an electric wheelchair that just about fits in the boot and she and I both love the car MG ZS EV the furthest we have travelled was 115 miles down into Lincs

Hello Dave,
Thanks for that and I'm surprised that you were charged for the unlooping as Western Power have told me that its free of charge and all properties will be unlooped in the next few years!!

Hello all and here's an update so far.
I’m collecting my first electric car (MG5 EV estate) on 22nd March, and was informed 3 months ago about unlooping my electricity supply and having to install an isolator switch.

I have to admit that my initial reaction was to leave it and go petrol or hybrid! However, the whole workload was taken off my hands by BP Pulse (who Motability use) and Western Power (our supplier).

An appointment was made to dig a hole in my drive last Thursday (10th Feb) , the technicians arrived yesterday (Tuesday 15th Feb) to unloop and install the switch and at 8am this morning (16th Feb) workmen took 15 minutes to fill the hole leaving my drive spotlessly clean! Specialists are due later today to reinstate the brickwork on the drive.

Western Power have been in constant touch with me to keep me updated and I’ve already praised them for the way in which the work has been co-ordinated.

Let’s hope BP Pulse keep up the fantastic service because it can’t be faulted so far and no-ne is mentioning money at all for the work - perhaps a freebie for the isolator?

The latest is that BP have been in touch and the charger will (??) be fitted on the 9th March.
Having asked, I was assured that it is "smart" so can be set to charge at specific times and the cable will be long enough to stretch around the back of my bungalow if I so wish!!
So far so good but (having read reviews and experiences) I'm not building up my hopes yet!!

Whatever you do contact Motobility and get changed to an Ohme charger......I had BP pulse installed by them and it was a nightmare from start to finish culminating in Motobility changing my charger to Ohme. The BP home charge unit does NOT work as a smart charger and they can't fix it. From the start of the process when they didn't turn up for 3 separate install appointments to the final swap out BP are terrible and have zero customer service. Ohme are brilliant.

If you value your sanity DON'T get a BP Chargemaster unit they are BROKEN. You have been warned.
