New car

Tuesday morning, the car arrived this morning and the PDI checks are being done plus I'm having the side steps removed, on both test drives we found them to be more of a hazard, it's quite easy to catch your achillies when getting out of the car.
Oh nice, that was quite quick, not long to wait then. (y)

Hello Lollipoman
Interesting to know that you have arranged for the sidesteps to be removed. I’m due delivery of my first MG HS PHEV a week on Tuesday and wondered how easy it would be to remove them. Did your supplying dealer indicate if it was a straightforward job or is it likely to be a bit complicated? Anybody else removed them or had them removed?

Hi Sound man, the dealer is removing them for me, my salesman rang me Friday morning to confirm I wanted them removed as he said that as well as bolts they are fitted with a type of GLUE. He said he would try and put them in the boot if they will fit🫢.

If not I will get the wife to use them as a pair of ski's and i will tow her.⛷️👌😂

Hi Soundman, how are you going to go about charging it? Have you got a charger or are going to use a granny charger?

I have an electrician coming this Friday to fit a 7kW charger on the outside of the house. Thought about just going with a granny charger but was put off with the apparent issues of potential overheating.

I use to have a nissan leaf about 5 years ago that was when type 1 chargers were fitted free so I bought a 7kw type 2 charger and local sparky fitted on friday now just waiting for the car on Tuesday.

Hi Salty, why is nothing mentioned at point of purchase by the dealer, nothing was said to us even when we went in to do all the signing over. As you are aware you don't get paperwork like the old days it's all done on line now but I think it's naughty not to tell you in case the worst happens when out in car.

Morning Soundman. Question. Was you made aware when you ordered your new car that 12 months AA cover is included? I certainly wasn't, only found out through reading a thread on here. I have googled the question for new cars purchased 2025 and it did confirm, look up https://www.mg.co.uk/roadside-assistance
Morning Lollipopman
It wasn’t specifically mentioned but like you I read it on a post in this forum. Here is a link to a page I found on MG U.K.’s website - it doesn’t specifically mention the AA but my understanding is that they do provide the assistance. https://www.mg.co.uk/sites/default/files/2023-09/MG_Assistance_Insurance.pdf

Well lollipopman, did you get the side steps removed without any damage or problems? I have the 2022 model and went to the dealer to see the new 2025 model. My wife didn't like them (Side Steps) at all! She found them difficult to negotiate, would dirty her trousers and being a bit short caught her ankle. Does the car 'look' odd without them?
The extended deep door skins on the 22 model helps keep the dirt off the inner face.
I would like to get a longer EV range and looked at a lot of mid/small PHEV SUV's but the this MG seems to tick nearly all my boxes. My best EV option is the Elroq but I prefer the PHEV as I have a Zappi and do mostly short journeys.

The dealership had no problem removing them for me and the just about went into the boot. To be honest they look better without but as everything else it will be down to taste. My wife had the same problem with her being on the short side but it was more about catching her achillies. Read my thread about having the vehicle for 6 weeks now. GO FOR IT you won't be disappointed😉

Thank you, I have emailed MG about removing them and if that would affect the warranty. I don't think it should but for peace of mind. I am trying to find what the size of the fuel tank is to get an idea of total range, found just about everything else but not that! Must be in there somewhere. I will have a look for your mentioned 6 week post.
We went to Hyundai to see what they had, Ionlc 5 and Tuscon, didn't fancy either but my wife liked and drove then ordered the Inster 2, great little? car and a total of £4250 off retail. Should have it next week just waiting for the PDI to complete.

There is no fuel gauge in the cluster it just shows number of miles left both on fuel and electric but they apparently are very accurate, we will refill at 25/20 miles left.

You will find videos by Jerry Pan on you tube on the mg hs phev very informative, I learned quite a bit.

You will also find absolutely anything and everything on this forum, just remember that the more careful you are with the accelerator/brake pedals the more you will get out of it in both petrol and electric. We purchased the ZS hybrid + last October and we upgraded because of the deal they offered and was only £20pm more and £14 difference on our insurance, was a no brainer realy.

60 years of driving and every car had a fuel gauge, such is progress? Okay, put it another way if the battery is fully charged and so is the fuel tank fully filled, what distance is shown in the cluster? I really wanted something smaller than my current HS, we don't really need a car as large as the HS any more. The ZS would be great in it was a PHEV. I'm not interested in the new 'Coupe' style. There are other PHEV's that cost a lot more and deliver a lot less. The other side of the coin is that having a battery and fuel tank they have to take up room somewhere. I had thought of the Golf but that has a much smaller boot because of the power sources, Engine and its fuel tank, Motor and its battery.
My current HS has just 4.3k on the clock and I reckon 90% was done on the Electric power.
Thank you for your comments, very much appreciated.

Hi Clive, went well she liked it very much so placed an order. I now have to replace my old wall charger that I had from my days with the old Nissan Leaf type1. I was thinking of getting an adaptor but reading up on it it's not advisable so, so I'm looking for some advice on type of charger to purchase we don't do alot of mileage so would a Granny charger do us?.
Eric.
We have the Hypervolt charger which we use several times a week oh a scheduled charge at night for cheap rate. Easy to use and setup.

Purchased a new hs phev nearly 2 weeks ago and I’m very pleased with the car so far. My wife still isn’t very confident driving as it is quite a big car but I’m sure she’ll get used to it with more driving. We went for the red with black interior and got a very good deal of £28500 using the mg affinity scheme. Think the offer has slightly reduced now but I believe it’s still around the £6000 mark and lasts until the end of September .
