New owner, wheel noise when first setting off

Is it just first drive in the morning?

If so, probably just rust/dirt/dust that develops on the discs, normally cleans itself off within a few yards. Quite normal on a hybrid. Very similar to parking an ICE vehicle for a few weeks, and the discs rust and stick.

Yeah it is just few yards. But should it be rusting this new? Thanks for your reply

Hi, it's very unusual, but seems quite normal on these vehicles. Mine clears after 3 - 4 yards, worse in reverse.

If it becomes a constant grating noise, then it would be a worry.

This is a problem with most Hybrids and EVs, as the brakes don't get used a lot, so dirt will settle and bare metal will rust, especially the rear ones; Some cars are programmed to occasionally skip regen, but mostly it's up to you to occasionally brake harder than regen, or, here possible, sensibly use the handbreak or e-break where possible; Had this issue with my Toyota Auris Hybris as well, so happens to the best of them; It's also the reason more EVS and Hybrids nowadays go back to rear drums, as those are less prone to these issues.

Sorry, my apologies, forgot to mention it's caused by lack of braking, due to regenerative braking, as you say.

Thank you, so regen not use actual brakes?
When you take your foot off the accelerator, and you feel the pull of the motor slowing you down, without using the brake, that's the regeneration in operation and using the energy already generated to recharge the battery. Most noticed in "eco" mode.
