Hi everyone. I've owned my new MG ZS EV since the end of January '25'. A great car and enjoyable to drive. Very pleased with it.

However, I noticed some small dark blotches under the clear coat paint on the bonnet & the roof. They are spaced out across the panels & frankly look like dirty water droplets have landed on the panels & dried before the clear coat has been applied. They are only visible in bright sunlight & are best viewed after washing the car. My car is 'Dynamic Red' which is a tri-coat paint. Both my dealer & their body shop have acknowledged an issue but as yet MG are still processing the claim, requiring more photos. I cannot easily take photo that show these spots but that's another story.

My question to the community is: does anyone else on here have this issue with a new car or have you experienced this? I'm sure it's not a common thing. It looks to me as if something (perhaps condensation) has gotten onto the car at the factory prior to the final clear coat being applied. No one had noticed it. To be fair it is difficult to see in overcast conditions. Just trying to prep myself before speaking with MG as I inevitably will. They have already been asking if the car has had some spray work carried out. I'd only had the car just over 6 weeks before finding the paint issue & nothing has been done to the car. The paint shop measured paint thickness all over & found no evidence of any spray work being carried out to the vehicle other than the factory spray work. It's factory fresh in other words!

Comments welcome.

Take the car again to be checked by MG dealers and check paint warranty conditions. please update us on the outcome
Yes thanks Fred. That's already been done. My question is aimed at finding out if others have experienced any similar paint issues. This could assist my claim which is currently being assessed. As I mentioned in my post, they currently require more photos.

Ok, as above MG has been assessing my car's paint issue. Today the service manager at my dealership called me to tell me MG has authorised the warranty work to go ahead. Excellent news of course & it's all been bother free. The body shop will be stripping & respraying the bonnet & roof. This will take around a week to be completed. It's worth adding that this sort of paint issue is very rare indeed on a brand new car.

The car was purchased at the end of January this year. I'm assured by my dealer that the car will be returned to me in absolutely brand new mint condition. The body shop has an impeccable reputation so I'm quite happy. I'll post back when the job is done with my thoughts. However, this won't be until towards the end of May due to booking appointments at the body shop being in big demand. My dealer is of course supplying another car for me to use for the duration. All looking good!

Good result - I heard good reports of the Colchester dealer. Good you didn't have to go though all the issues and 1.5 years of battles, detailed in this thread...
