Why is "One pedal operation" not available on my MG4 EV Trophy when it has just been charged? Brings up message "Not available low charge" clearly there is plenty of charge.

“Not available low charge” is a confusing message though, I’m guessing something got garbled in translation there, similar to the car saying “please plug in charger” in the charging screen no matter what charge you’re at.

But @MG Clive is spot on. The car will also flash a warning if you charge to 100% about regenerative braking being disabled temporarily.

Because OPD relies on regenerative braking, and on full charge there is no regenerative braking. Regenerative braking is only available when you get down to 97% charge.
True, but OPD needs you to go a bit lower. I can't start using mine until about 93%

80% is a lot different to my car, difference between LFP and NMC perhaps?
But I'd think if there is a difference, the NMC would start earlier than the LFP

I have seen these replies many times and although the message seems odd I get it.. but.. I have a 2023 australian essence 77kw, so trophy equiv extended range and even at 100% SOC I can still enable and use OPD. I have never seen the message and have no idea where the regen energy is being sent if the battery is already full !!! 😀

Not surprised. Same with my ‘77kwh’
It simply probably has more capacity when it appears to be fully charged. There is definitely something wrong with the charge and discharge management algorithms in this model. There is plenty of evidence that their real world range is less than advertised by more than usually expected. My own test shows that the true capacity from so-called fully charged to indicated zero is only 67 kWh and I’m about to test this in the New Zealand justice system by lodging a claim for a partial refund of purchase price with our small disputes tribunal

That's weird, I have no range issues with mine. Just put 47,500kms on it, had the first 40,000kms service and not one issue with it. Have had the headlights not coming on once and simple to fix with a restart. Range averages 10.5 to 12.5kw, city highway but when I have mountain bike on the back and at a higher 100, 110kph then it gets around 15,16 depending on gradients. I have pretty much charged it solely with AC at either granny speed of 1.5 or genuine MG wall charger at 9.5 to 10kw via 3 phase AC and solar. Have only DC charged it once as never had a need. We have warm climate here so perhaps that has a lot to do with it. Work daily drive pretty much spot on 30km per 4 or 5% SOC drop. So 9 or 10% per 60km. So from 100% down to 10% I am getting around the 530 to 540km. No complaints with that at all. That's real world and I am no light foot. Mostly drive in normal and some sport.

Questions, when using regen at 100%, does it work the same as at 90%?
Does it slow you as much and does the power meter show the same -ve numbers?

If so the battery can't be at 100%, or it's overcharging the battery, that's the only place the regen current can go.

All great questions and not 100% sure. Don't actively look at -ve display, too hard really while driving and it changes too fast to really gauge an accurate answer. I run highest regen and 1 pedal always. Feels the same on the few times I have been at 100% as at 80%, which is my usual charge state. I almost always let it do the balancing at the end of any charge, which can take a while... I can see it varying at 500W charge rate, then 0, then up again.

Well if it feels the same, it must be working. Just how is the dilemma.

I feel a huge difference at 100%, it can be quite unnerving, having 0 braking when your foot comes off. It's different to an ICE car that has some engine braking, it's just like putting the car into neutral.

It's OK when you are ready for it, but if you forget there's no regen, that's momentarily disturbing

Oh totally agree, I notice it when I forget to set OPD before zipping out and then come to the first T Junction and have to use brakes!!! Or drive my partners auto Mazda 3 and realise I need to actually push an extra pedal every time I want to slow down ....
