On the CD thread, two original v covers have been presented, so here is your chance to post your favourite

I'll start this off with Unchained Melody

This is the original from 1955

This is the Righteous Brothers version from 1965

The version from the movie Ghost

You forgot (or didn't know) about this version. ;)

On BBC 6 music Craig Charles does a feature where the listeners get to vote on a cover vs. original of a song. A variation is two different songs with the same name (either/or) and another more tenuous one is two songs on the same theme.

It's a good idea!

Generally speaking I like covers best when they're just totally different from the original... like:

versus

One rare exception would be this cover

of this original

Another interesting one is "Money's to tight".
Most of us know it by Simply Red, and it was a huge hit for them in 1985. The original version however was by the Valentine Brothers in 1982.
It's a split decision on this, original or cover? Both are good, but once you've heard the Valentine Brothers original you might be swayed by its more soulful recording, rather than Simply Red's more rock orientated version.

That's 2 seconds of my life I'm not going to get back. How can you think that's an improvement on the perfection of the original.
I doubt they were trying to improve on it, just present it differently, I think both are good in their own right ...
I'm glad they didn't try to do a cover of Wish You Were Here, that would be criminal ..... hearing the story of Sid Barrett wandering in while they were recording it at the Abbey Road studio and none of the band members initially recognised him, then Roger Walters ending up in tears, was probably the beginning of the end of Waters remaining as part of the band ...... a very sad album, but still a favourite
