For those that have the latest software for the MG4 Trophy can you switch off the over speed ping sound and does it stay off or does it reset to on next time you start the car?

I have a 73 plate Trophy with R59 software, and currently the ping for over speed is permanently off, I just get the speed sign flashing with no sound. Which is great not having to switch it off everytime I start the car. My wife’s MG3 Hybrid on a 24 plate pings when 1 mile over speed limit and can’t be permanently switched off which is annoying.

The reason I’m asking is everything is working great apart from the hvac temperature settings, setting at 25 degrees still blasts cold air in to the cabin. I understand that with later software the HVAC temperature settings are much better. But I’d rather live with the hvac temperature settings than having the annoying over speed ping sounding everytime I’m 1 mile over the limit 🙂 But if latest software allows over speed sound to still be permanently switched off like I currently have then I’ll get the update to fix hvac.

The overspeed warning sound became mandatory in Europe starting from March 2024. All MGs sold after this date were updated to emit this sound. But I can assure you that if you update your car via SIPS for the HVAC, you won’t suddenly start hearing the sound. That’s because it was only enabled by SAIC for cars sold after March 2024, and when the dealer connected SIPS to the vehicle to perform the activation, that update was applied. If your car doesn’t already have it, even after updating it won’t activate. For example, I updated my whole car via SIPS myself. I picked it up on February 27, 2024, so I basically avoided the torture by just two days, and everything stayed fine.

I presume we are not talking about the Overspeed warning (which is enabled using the smaller drivers screen via the menu buttons on the steering wheel, but instead the "intelligent" speed limiter / warning system (not sure what it's called) but enabled via the Infotainment?

Neither the overspeed, or the Intelligent speed limiter warning is active each time you turn on the car on mine (which is an April 2025) and was upgraded last month to the latest infotainment software version (R67). The speed symbol does flash when you exceed what it's expecting, however it doesn't bong. If it did it would be very painful for me as it picks up 20mph signs (somehow) on 70mph roads most days.

Are you sure? Changes to legislation usually only apply to vehicles designed/type-approved after that date. 🤷‍♂️
In Europe, the installation of the system has been mandatory for type approvals since 2022, but at that time only a visual warning was required, so it just flashes on the screen. Starting from March 2024, an audio alert also became mandatory for all new registrations. This was already outlined in the 2022 regulation, so manufacturers were expected to be prepared.
