It's a 75 year old 2-6-0 Ivatt, entirely coal fired.

Excellent pictures.
I’m loving the rigging on the tall ship. They knew how to travel in those days eh? None of this messing about collecting wind to squeeze out a bit of power to send for miles down bits of wire.
Instead why not employ that wind at “source “ to push your vehicle along ? OK it renders directional travel kind of difficult and you can’t store any but look at the advantages

A few big sticks, some stout string and a tarpaulin and you were away (sometimes)
Peak and off peak cost is the same.

Has anyone heard about yon smelly oily things that tried to take over ?

I did a cruise on the Star Clipper in May. A great experience. We did I guess 99% of the voyage from Istanbul to Athens under sail.

Yeah that must have been a fantastic trip
Don’t worry about not turning the pictures- I’ve laid a bit of kitchen roll along the bottom of my phone and it seems to be mopping it up fine

Not as wonderfully dramatic as Shrinkproof’s black and white picture but this was the Bo’ness railway Museum as I walked past yesterday.

The observant amongst you will have noted the early experiments with horizontal signalling which
didn’t catch on

Apologies for trying to empty the old harbour but I was too excited by the prospect of a free bramble snack - they were delicious and waaay above the range of any local dog I know off.
