Rear window demist

Now the weather has turned, I finally had a need to demist the rear window. Turned it on and found that the bottom three elements were not working. Called dealer and have been told the bottom three elements are not heating, but are, in fact, the aerial for the radio. Can anyone else verify this and has anyone else noticed that the bottom elements do not heat the screen? If that is the case, then the cleared portion is quite a thin strip. I cannot find anything in the manual about this.

Been covered loads of times already ... the bottom 3 lines are the radio aerial.

Yep, and I agree it's totally stupid. Couldn't they add three lines in between the heating strips, or somewhere else entirely? As you say, visibility is poor enough, it shouldn't be compromised through this seemingly lazy design.

My MG5 is the same. You just learn to live with it.

I seem to remember my Mondeo used the rear window heating elements as the aerial and had a box of tricks under the rear seat so it didn't need none functioning wires.

I'd have been happy enough with a good old fashioned external aerial!

You mean like the shark fin aerials that a lot of cars sport?

Could be but it doesn't have to be a fashion statement for me. A simple wire aerial would be fine.

A small shark fin would have been better, DAB reception where I am is not great and I've lost signal several times from the current setup.

My MG5 is the same. You just learn to live with it.

The view to the rear of the MG5 is considerably better than the MG4.
