Running low and need to charge for the first time not at home. I normally charge at home, but don't know what charge my car can take. It's an MG4 Trophy?

The car and the charger works it out between them. Unless you are granny charging.
You don't need to worry.

Your car will determine the charge rate ... even if you connect to a, say, 250kW ultra-rapid charger your car will still tell the charger how fast to charge ... maximum of about 140kW in your car's case, which will then throttle back as the state of charge (SoC) rises above about 50 or 60%

As above, just go to your nearest rapid charger (CCS) and plug in and the car will drink as fast as it can. No danger of overcharging, it is all managed by the car.

Yep as others have said. Find a CCS charger and the car will take what it can. Prepare to get slapped with the price though. I paid £0.72/kwh the other day. Not nice!

Indeed. It is ok if it is occasional though as it averages out. But for those without home charging, going electric isn't necessarily cheaper to fuel/charge.

I had to do my first CCS charge this week as the dreaded CCU fault has appeared. I won't be using that charger again, not at £0.84/kWh.

There are open to all Tesla chargers near Derby which are a good bit cheaper.

Looks like Ionity might have some more decent prices if you subscribe to one of their plans

The Motion option seems to put their prices at the non-peak Tesla non-member pricing level. So it's a lot better than pure contactless, but still a bit behind the curve of the main competition.

I know but I don't do a lot of mileage. It might be a coincidence but it started when I tried pre-heating the car while it was still connected to my home charger for the first time.

The car's booked in for it's second service and for the dealer to sort out the charging fault on 20th March. The dealer rang me yesterday to bring the car in that afternoon so they could officially log the fault and raise a ticket with MG so when it goes in the authorisation for the replacement of the CCU will be in place.

Thanks. I've had a look but you also have to pay for parking at £3.60 for 2 hours. It is still cheaper depending on how much charge you put in.

My mode has been:
1) Tesla
2) Elecroverse app or GRIDSERVE on offer
3) Whatever is convenient and plentiful Sainsbury’s for example
4) Avoid Shell and InstaVolt

But also if you charge mostly at home you need not be over anxious just go somewhere with plentiful chargers if possible.

Instavolt are charging 85p/ kWh. I'm paying 6.571p/kWh overnight at home. That's almost 13 times more. Disgusting. I am more than happy with my electric vehicle, but if I had to rely on commercial chargers it would be a different kettle of fish.

Instavolt have a lot of costs other than electricity: depreciation, maintenance, support, land, vandalism, etc. Also, I'm not sure that they can get very cheap electricity overnight, in industrial quantities.

There are good reasons for the difference. I recommend the Fully Charged podcast interview with Osprey CEO if you’d like to understand the UK specific challenges. Because it could be a lot better and greed is not the only motive.

Just remember to cancel any schedule charging for off peak you may have set in the car. It's caught me out a couple of times. If you have a smart charge point at home, then forget what I said...
