If it is £1250 now if you bought one today you are going to be realistically paying £1500 in four years time. I personally would love to buy an EV, but unfortunately I live in London in a Victorian terrace and have no off street parking. There are a handfull of chargers in the road on lamp posts, but they are expensive and never free as any car can park there.
I currently have a 2011 petrol car that averages 40MPG, I service it myself and the insurance renewal is £180 a year. The thing that annoys me most is that it is a manual and I really want an automatic, but replacing it with a new MG3 Hybrid is literally going to cost me several hundreds of pounds a month.
I almost convinced myself with the smoke and mirrors PCP putting down £5k that it is "only £150 a month", but that is ignoring the £9k final balloon payment, higher insurance and £50+ a month servicing costs.
I currently pay annually £225 for road tax, £180 for insurance, £50 for an MOT and £50 for servicing, so just over £40 a month.
I loved the way the MG3 drove on the occasions I borrowed one, but I just can't accept the running costs and I suspect big depreciation.
