Split charging systems/dual battery...

Morning all!

So, for a number of reasons I would like to add a second 12V battery to my MG5 and wondered if anyone has done this already. My main question is whether the installation of a diode/MOSFET charge splitting unit (with associated voltage drop) would drive the 12V DC-DC converter to bump up its output a little to compensate.

My intention is to use the second battery to supply some comms kit without risking discharging the main 12V battery and rendering the vehicle U/S.

As long as the combined load is lower than it’s (continuous) power rating, the DC / DC will cope just fine

It's not the capacity I'm concerned about, it's whether the DC-DC converter will adjust itself for the admittedly small volt-drop the switching unit introduces, should I choose to use a diode unit.

Don’t think so as this would require a voltage sense line to the 12V aux?
