Today stopped at a farm gate, wife got out of car to open gate, but she was struggling, so put on the brake and got out to help.
After gate opened, I got back in, foot hard on the brake, but ready wouldn't come up and neither would drive or reverse.
It was on a downward slope, so I selected neutral, and rolled through the gate, a few meters past the gate, "ready" appeared, and car was back to normal.
I suspect I may have confused things by getting out too quickly.
Any advice on what to do if it happens again and there is no slope?

Did you put your seat belt back on again when you sat down again?

Sometimes if I fail to do so when moving a little way the car allows me but other times it will not let me go into drive/reverse.

If that's not the problem you could try powering down the car through the info screen and then press the brake pedal to power up again?

FWIW, the car will automatically put the parking brake on when you leave the seat.

fairly sure I didn't put the seat belt back on again, But I did try exiting car, locking and unlocking.
So I'll go with the intermittent seat belt requirement for now

If the car refuses to go in my experience it's always after I've been driving, put it in park, get out for some reason, jump back in and forget to put the seat belt on.
It insists I put it on before letting me drive off.

I often thought that was why I had to say rude words to the 51, but I've discovered that simply opening the drivers door and closing it again to make sure it is fully shut, seems to do the trick. The seatbelt thing was a pain when driving the 10 feet or so to our yard gate to lock it as we left, or from unlocking when we returned, but the double door open and close seems to get around that problem .....

Hope I didn't speak too soon, and the seatbelt curse returns to haunt me

Mine is quite fickle. Always lets me drive out of the garage without fastening the seat belt, but last week when I was in a line of 32 7 kW PodPoints and the first two I tried were being temperamental, it insisted on the belt being fastened before it would condescend to move to the next post.

I had almost exactly the same - having stopped at the T junction at the bottom of a hill the drive lamp didn't come on when selected. Having just managed to coast across the road to a slightly safer place I found the car would actually drive and it was just the lamp that didn't come on.

A few hundred yards later in a lay-by, I powered down from the dropdown menu and have had no problems since 🤷.

Will the car go into ready mode if you’re not in P? I feel like I had something similar once and it was caused because I somehow got my sequence mixed up and put the car in R before going into ready mode. Had to put it back in P.

Put the car in 'D' or 'R', disable the electronic brake and you can drive away. After a few seconds a seatbelt warning gong will sound but doesn't affect the movement of the car. I use this every time when I move in/out of my drive to then get out and close/open the gates.

Well one of these days, that may not work, you'll just have to put belt on before it will go into ready.

How to overcome seat belt warnings and associated problems. ;)

This very thing happened to me last week when I had to get out for something I forgot, when I got back it wouldnt go into drive or reverse and the driver display was showing a message at the top saying "Please fasten seatbelt first" ☺️ I had to laugh at the nanny nature of the safety here, as it doesnt care if you have it on when you first set off.
