Tesla Model 3 to X-power or Extended range

The XPower is very fast when you want it to be but it's equally happy just popping down to the stupormarket and pottering about town.

It doesn't put the power down as well as some more expensive performance cars though. It would be better with more up to date active suspension, steering, etc. but that would push the price way up, probably into a bracket where it would have more trouble competing. For it's price, the car is difficult to beat.

Maybe not on stock rubber, but my 0 to 60mph of 3.51 seconds says the powers going down quite nicely. (probably never mentioned it before on here 🤣)

Yes I had to hang onto it, but I don't remember fighting it.

I really should make the effort to beat that time.

It would appear nobody else can, despite all the waffle from different parts of the world at the time of setting. (August 2024)

I personally like the car to fight a bit when you floor it, push it.
Bit boring if the computer is doing a billion adjustments per second to make it behave.
Puts the onus back on you to drive it.
Agree with this - for me it's some of the flaws that give it some driving character, which in my honest opinion is missing from 99% of EVs currently available. Still chuckle when it spits me sideways on a slow damp corner and in normal mode, when the front motor kicks in properly, it's like an old skool turbo coming on boost from the 1980s.

In stark contrast, the Tesla had all the driving charisma of magnolia paint. It was so efficient in the chassis control department that is sapped any fun out of driving. As an EV, it was/is much better than the X-power in most areas, just not driving enjoyment, which is important to me (probably more so than most people who see a car as just an appliance to get you from A to B).

Bang on.

I didn't ever try and thrash my model 3 down a back road so have no idea of its capabilities.
It just didn't encourage that sort of driving.

My X Power on the other hand reminded me of "Buckaroo" on my local back roads when really pushing on.

Mainly because of the shocking state of some of the roads but also the weight, meaning the budget suspension was being overpowered.

I have had some fabulous drives when the road is flowing and smooth and you are not asking for all the performance.
7 / 10ths is where it's at IMO.

Where this car really *shines, is when all the performance is required in the straight line sprint.

Plenty have tried but nothing has come close in nearly 14000 miles.

Edit.
*Shines in the performance aspect.

(Car shines in all aspects as a great, normal, family, day to day hatchback IMO)

That's useful info thanks. My wife is a foot health practitioner and so after dropping me at work, she then takes the car to do multiple house visits for the rest of the day (distance between clients can vary from a mile to 25 miles). I have free charging available at work (but only 7kw) so maximise the use of this when we can & use public DC charging (which is also expensed) to minimise electricity costs at home (which I then have to pay for personally).

Whilst it isn't often we do 180 miles each day, any real world range less than this makes planning charging a full time job, much I just don't have time for. We get by with this range (what we currently have in the tesla after 14% battery degradation) but no doubting a longer range would be beneficial so it's very much weighing up 'fun vs form'.

Guess what I'm really trying to do is talk myself into the X-power!
Go for it !!

If you beat your time please come on and tell us about it!!

I’ve just driven my X Power from Cornwall to Shropshire.
Due to being a novice on longer trips, I spent the whole journey in eco mode. Still plenty of acceleration. It’s been nice warm weather and we were getting 4 miles per kWh ‘pootling’ around at 40-50mph. 70 on the motorway was 3 with A/C on. In sport mode, using some performance, it’s 2.5 miles/kWh. Last winter we were getting 2 miles per kWh with heater and everything on.
It’s the easiest car I’ve ever had to drive. Acceleration is nuts, but I rarely need that.
A realistic range is 160-180 miles. The long range is for most folk the more practical choice. But I’m glad I chose the X power. Mine has run faultlessly. Main gripe is having to constantly turn off LKA in Cornwall. Also, my bluetooth connection is terrible. I always use Car Play.
Needs a light in the rear too.

Yes, my experience after 12,000 miles is just as above. I find the Xpower a great longer distance cruiser when needed. It's comfortable, reasonably refined, practical enough for luggage and Apple Carplay is very welcome (once you find the best lead !). My mls/kWh are bang on with the above and I always plan a stop and rapid charge around the 120 mile distance mark (which usually ends up being Gridserve at Watford Gap services for me !). By that time I'm ready for a break anyway, especialy after crawling for 20-50 minutes on the M25 coming home😉 . After a 20 minute fast charge and comfort break we're off again with no more stops needed on a 240 mile trip (Leeds - Crawley)
