The absolute joy that is rapid charging with ZS Mk2 Standard Range!

Needed to top up on our way home from a weekend trip at a 175kW Charge point/EV Point charger.

As you can see I'm pulling an amazing, 35kW on CCS.

The Audi ETron next to me pulling a full 4 x the amount I was!

One of the small handful of issues I've got with this car that means I'll probably be selling it in a year or so once second hand EVs drop down in price a bit more.

My wife has the MG ZS EV SR 51 and it’s a great car for the price. However, for long trips the MG4 ER 64 is excellent, not just for the mild range boost but mainly for the big increase of three times the charge rate over the ZS, sustained from zero to about 55%.

I totally understand as I had a tesla before. It’s a bummer as we pay charging sessions by the minute which means price per kWh goes through the roof

I was constantly pulling 72-75kW on my trip across France last summer in my Gen 2 SR ZS.

In winter in the UK I am getting similar to you.
The difference?

Cold temps
Starting the charge at 30%+ Vs 10-15% when I was on the road trip.

It's normal. If you want better than this you need the Audi or a Hyundai Ioniq 5/6 etc.

Same here. Quite disappointing really. Not sure if turning on battery heating prior to fast charging would improve things much, either.

Fortunately it’s much better in spring/summer where you’d traditionally be going on longer trips more frequently, so it’s overall an ‘ok’ thing to have to put up with in colder months.

Just another issue with what is the worst car I've ever had.
There is no driving pleasure knowing that to get anywhere will need an overlong stop. I miss my ICE with a 500+ mile range and ten minute stop to get another 500 miles with the added benefit of being a car with decent road holding a great brakes (Audi A4).

It's not an 'issue'. Most EVs won't get the full charging performance in the cold and higher SOC.

You can get 70-75kW in warmer temps, and 35-40 when it's cold.

No, but nice to only have to fill up once a week rather charging 2-3 times per week. And cost of fast chargers, about £35 for 150miles doesn't make it economical, just as well its a company car so I don't have pay anything for the car -and that is still too much

Ouch that’s a high BIK. I think mine was £200 for a Merc A class down to £28 now I have an EV. My budget was 30k so went for the ZS. A guy at work had a 40k budget and went for a petrol Audi A3 which is bonkers as he could have got a Tesla and enjoyed free motoring instead he’s paying high BIK.

Don’t you have EV points at work? If you don’t I’d have said I’ll use my car and claim 45p per mile.

There is no 'filling up' if you are charging from home. Plus the benefit of off peak 9p kWh charging.

I set off from home with 100% with pretty much every journey, which makes the inconvenience of filling up an ICE seem like a hassle.

I consider my EV to be very economical, but you can’t beat my wife’s Fiat 500.
We bought it new in 2016 and she has never filled it up since ?.
I have done the maths and it is doing 13,000 miles to the tank ( that I fill ).
Beat that if you can ?.

Didn't you know in advance how much range it had and approximately how fast it charges?

no driving pleasure? I thoroughly enjoy every day of my 2nd mgzs.
if you prefer a petrol car then trade it in.
