Things not to like on the MGS6

Had ours for 2 weeks, it’s the Trophy long range single motor, really pleased with it so far, only negative would be the stereo system is lacking in bass, wouldn’t make me regret my decision to purchase though, the rest of the package is very impressive.
Update on the stereo lacking bass, had a chance to play with the settings and the positioning in the car, it has bass. sounds good compared to standard setting.

Hiya. So what is the best temperature for the batteries to operate? In Singapore we average about 30ºC.

That means the air conditioning is a must function which i imagine will reduce the range, akin to heating function for you lot in the cold?

Not sure of the “best” operating temperature for the battery, I’m sure someone will be along shortly to answer that, however range extends in hotter weather, I can see that, also pre heating the battery improves charging performance so I’d say your climate would be better than ours.

On the subject of A/C, uses more power than heating but depending on daily use may not be an issue, also the S6 benefits from both heated and cooled front seats, so additional cooling would be useful for you.

The ambient temperature range listed for the MGS6 is –15°C to +45°C.

Edit: I should add, it will operate outside those ranges, at least for short periods, but things like efficiency and degradation will take a hit.

Hi all. I am from Singapore and I am looking to get a MGS6.

I like to know from existing owners whether there are any aspects of the S6 that is quite unlikeable? In Singapore cars cost a lot of money so I'm doing research on this.

I am aware that this is an enthusiasts forum but I'm hoping for anything negative about the car ... sort of stuff that only real owners and not youtube reviewers show?

Thank you all!
Hi, I've had my S6 Dual Motor a few weeks and travelled 600 miles. It's charged to 80% in 0-5 degrees C overnight which gives about 180 miles of normal to occasional spirited driving. The car handles the 360hp well, and can take the lead in most traffic light gran prix with a satisfying surge of power, if that's your thing, but if you start to push it you become very aware if it's 2400kg with the stability programme cutting in early with a slap on the wrist before you ditch it. Imagine a how a powerful yacht performs, and that's it's characteristic. This car is much happier cruising about. That said it's very stable and capable in the bends, and overtaking is impressively quick.

There is nothing about the car which makes it "unlikable", it's the opposite. Very comfortable, quiet, refined, and drives well.

Every car has it's downsides, and so far I've not found any major issues. Most of the niggles are software related that could be fixed with updates.

Examples:
If you manually activate the 360 camera under 10 mph then select reverse, the software turns it off - really it should stay on.

Similarly, the side camera turns on at a stand still when indicating. This doesn't always work reliably when Android Auto is showing, and is a bit of a pointless feature. It would be better to show you the blind spot when driving.

The head up display is also good, and very useful, but for me it has a very slight blur to it. I can never get it quite right. Also it doesn't seem to adjust for each driver memory pre-set. At night time in the dark, if you have it set too bright you can see r light bleed from the edge of its screen reflecting in the windscreen.

It could be the current cold weather but the tyre pressure monitor is always flagging up low pressure in the morning. It probably needs the sensitivity adjusting.

The drivers seat could do with a pivot function at the axis so the front lifts and supports the back of your knee more if you're tall.

The electric mirrors do not always remember their pre set state pile the seats.. usually they, go wrong after reversing for some reason.

The stereo is good and holds a loud volume without distortion, but it's very bright sounding, which can make it sound cheap in some music. You can fix this by setting the bass to max and all other eq settings to mid range, then setting the high end eq to your preference.

Finally, I've not managed to open the boot by kicking behind. It's mentioned in the instruction video and there is a setting in the menu for hands free boot opening... maybe I'm doing something wrong.

On the whole I would recommend this car. It's a beautiful drive, lovely materials, nice to drive, very spacious, relaxing and goes like crazy. For the money, I'd say it's a good choice.

I've not set the boot to open with a wave of the foot yet. Will try it in the next day or two.

I wish it didn't have privacy glass in the rear. Looks good, but it affects visibility when reversing... and I'd rather look over my shoulder when reversing on unlit country lanes.

May I ask if the S6 has digital keys ie using the mobile phone to access the car? BYD has that function and I was quite impressed by that.

Yes, you can "bind" your phone to the car. Once you have done this you can set keyless start and remotely lock it unlock the car. You can also share a digital key with a friends or family.

Furthermore, you can control the vehicles main features, air con, heated seats and steering wheel. Review it's location, service status etc, and have the car send you messages if it starts up or has a problem.

One thing to note here is that the software versions vary from region to region. In Singapore, unfortunately, sharing the digital key to other users is not possible.

Yes, i can use my phone to lock/unlock the car, pre-cool the car. And once I am in the car, i can start the car with my phone. Although i realise it takes some time as compared to having a physical key, which is instantaneous. Going in your phone takes a bit of time before you can start the car from your phone - i think it waits for the bluetooth connection to be established.

That being said, the experience may vary, since I am coming from an MG S5.

If you change the location settings in the app to Singapore, and agree to the new terms and conditions, it immediately changes the look and layout of the app. Digital key sharing does display as an option. While this is no guarantee it would imply it's available in that region.
