There's a lot of wind around here so I have looked into it, but unless you can mount the thing on a very high pole, and it's not so close to habitation that it's going to drive you nuts, it's not really on. Farmhouses and isolated rural homes have them.

Why - it’s never too bright or dull or windy to drill the world for oil, never too expensive to erect and maintain hideous structures to extract it, but clearing up after them is always the difficult part. And sending it overland in pipes or trucks or overseas in ships never seems to phase folk.

True story. The manse where I was brought up backed on to a pit.
