To Update MG4 software or Not?

Aah. Nothing to do with the quality of the software.

So far I have no issues with the software on my Xpower. Looking forward to what MG have on offer in 4-5 years time, will be my first port of call.
Seriously thinking of trading my excite for an X.
I didn’t buy an MG for the software. The feel good /$ ratio was driving factor. (Haa!)
I will have to overlook NMC, which seems to be less relevant as they age.

I'm a pensioner now but for decades I was always at the front of the queue for technology and especially hardware/software updates.
Over the last few years I've gone by the saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it".
Very soon I will be having my first MG4 service and to be honest (and touching a lot of wood) I've got nothing to complain about, I don't even turn off LKA now because I'm so used to what it's going to do.
My software is SW168-29958-1300R33

What are your thoughts::
1) Take every update possible?
2) If it ain't broke don't fix it?

Thanks
My MG4Trophy ER has just had its first service yesterday, everything worked fine before, but when I picked it up the service receptionist told me that the weather forecast part has stopped working, they would get it back in to investigate. Since getting it back home and testing it, the Bluetooth pairing has stopped working, the phone syncing of contacts and recent calls doesn't work, basically pressing the phone symbol does nothing. Checking the software reveals it is R63.
So my answer to your question is 1) for recalls and 2) for the infotainment updates. It sounds like I'm sitting on the fence but I wish I had said to the service guy just to leave the infotainment software as it is, it works...or rather it did😏🤨. Always wiser with hindsight🧐
Has anyone out there had similar problems with R63🤔🙂

R59 has similar pairing issues. Although the option sync is on, after again pairing the same it still does sync anything. Only if I want to open the recent calls or the xontact list, it starts up the process of loading everything. By now, I have 5x an MG in the bluetooth list...

I always 'forget this device' before attempting to pair again, it doesn't always work. I have noticed that after several attempts that it now pairs successfully🤔🤨. The phone button still doesn't work though.🙄

Apparently R67 seems to finally solve those BT issues ... but that's just what I recall from reading this forum.
Correct. I got R67 installed 11 days ago and didn't have to reconnect my phone since.
Although sometimes when you start a car and press the phone button - you have to wait a moment before it finishes "syncing process".

When I take it back to get it fixed, I'll suggest that to the service receptionist. Thanks for that.
I've experienced the delay in syncing, but this is different, it just 'pings' and does nothing.

An update on my opening post.
I had my first service yesterday so speaking to the service tech I said would the update be done because I'm still on SW168-29958-1300R33 and I'm on of those who always thinks 'If it ain't broke don't fix it'.
He said there are a lot of improvements like the LKA and nobody has moaned about the latest update so it's worth having.
He rang at 3pm to say all servicing done but they are just updating the software so collect after 4pm.
I got home, checked the software and it's still on SW168-29958-1300R33.
A bit disappointed but also happy.
I don't know whether to ring them about it or just leave it.

Mine was really bad for bluetooth connectivity , was R40 now on R67 and touch wood it is fine so far.
LKA update also, way better now and glad it has been sorted.

The R33 refers to the infotainment system not that associated with the LKA process. My Trophy is still on R33 which so far, barring an occasional Bluetooth issues, is acceptable to me.

Somebody suggested they could have done a software update on the stuff that MG have told them to do eg toning the LKA down.
If I wanted to go from R33 to R63 then I would have to pay.
Must admit I went out in it earlier and it wasn't pulling me over like it normally does.

Just an update on MidGe's service recall a week ago. The infotainment version has been upgraded to version R67...but it is not the cure all as expected.😒 The weather app still doesn't work, bluetooth connects but the phone still doesn't sync, though can take in-coming calls. The phone button still just pings. The technician was at a loss as to how to fix it, so they have escalated it to 'MG Technical' for help. They have come back and asked for some diagnostic checks to be carried out to try and get to the bottom of this, so it goes back in tomorrow for another go. It's fair to say that though inconvenient, I'm given a EV courtesy car, a Corsa😏 to get me about. I keep hinting about a go in the IM6 sitting in the back of the forecourt...but it gets a positive rejection 😄 They are hoping that if the diagnostics show up what's wrong, that they can also remedy it at the same time, so that I don't need to go back again for a year.
The work around meantime is to use Apple Car Play to make calls, which I've discovered is quite good, never needed to use it before😃

So...MidGe has been back in again and the tech followed advice given by MG Technical to no avail😏. The car was kept overnight and until 5pm that following day, the dealer wanted to hang on to it for another night until it was fixed but I pointed out that I really didn't like the Mokka ICE courtesy car they had given me AND it was costing me £15 a day insurance waiver. Reason being so they could try to get to the bottom of it, More contact with MG seems they were at a loss as well so decided to allow a new infotainment screen be fitted. I dug my heals in and asked for the car back for my holidays. So they removed the infotainment screen to get a part no: refitted it, gave it an extra valet and gave me it back.
As it turned out, we delayed our departure for God's country as Storm Amy was wreaking havoc in Glen Rannoch and all power was lost to the glen. We thought that was our Autumn break scuppered, but we got a call to say power had been restored, so we left on Sunday. A day late but better than expected.
I'm hoping that the dealer will have the new screen on our return next week, here's hoping this will cure it.

Well, stretching a point I suppose, but Loch Rannoch lies in a glen with Kinloch Rannoch at the East end. Beautiful place...it's pretty dreich out there at the moment, but it promises to be better from tomorrow.
That's dawn over Schiehallion on your left.
I had a call today from my car dealer and the new infotainment screen has arrived, so it's booked in week after next to have it replaced...fingers crossed🤞

Yes, I see what you mean. I'll give you that one, though I haven't heard it called that.
