So - with our RFL “ luxury car tax” and the new 3 p per mile EV tax I recon that the average motorist doing 12000 miles per year will pay in total just short of £1000 per year !
I appreciate that perhaps a per mile tax system is fair for EV drivers, but to charge standard RFL and luxury car tax on top is in my view taking the pi**.
I’d get rid of the car and by a horse but then I’d probably end up paying hoof tax.
I don’t think the budget move will do anything to promote EV driving in the uk 🤬🥺

There already is a hoof 'tax', a set of new shoes cost around £140 every 6-8 weeks.

It appears that Lux Car Tax will not apply to the long range version… However, I agree that these changes will do little to encourage adoption of EVs. I wonder how they will manage the charge per mile and how long before someone finds a way to clock an EV?

My guess, is not long. If indeed they don't already know. 😉🙂👍

Have the rules changed Mike JS, I thought it applied to anything over £40,000 ?

The charge per mile is apparently not linked to UK mileage. I could drive 1,000 miles in the UK and another 9,000 miles throughout Europe and still be charge for 10,000 miles, supposedly to help repair roads damaged by my car in the UK

Now that the luxury car tax has been increased, I hope MG can get the air suspension version of the IM6 down to £49,999...
