As #Ozzie1989 has said I don't believe that the MG5 is approved for fitting a tow bar so if my understanding is correct it wouldn't be legal to fit one and your insurance would also be invalidated. Originally the MG5 roof rails weren't approved for loads and were designated as decorative. They were later approved for 35 Kg I believe and the LR at 75 Kg from memory. It isn't a matter of MG just saying we don't approve of you doing it, no, it is that the vehicle either hasn't been officially tested (as in the MG5 roof bars at first) or have been tested and only rated as safe up to the limit stated. Therefore, to do otherwise is a road safety matter. The ZS EV 1st Gen is also not approved for tow bar whereas the Facelift ZS both LR and SR are with a towing limit which is from memory 500 Kg

All correct, I looked into this in detail as it was quite a big issue for me. The MG5 facelift coming later this year is also approved to tow up to 500kgs in Europe, so presumably also will in UK on release.

For what it's worth, if you are considering a purchase, rather than already owning, the new MG5 that we have here in France has a 500kg tow rating.

That looks really good and raises so many questions. Is there a factory towbar option or is that from a 3rd party supplier (and if so, who)? I'm no expert on the new model, but I'd say that the rear suspension looks lower in that picture, presumably due to the weight of the bikes and the cycle carrier cantilevered off the back of the car.

Mg literature says the towbar is limited to 50kg nose weight (weight applied downwards on the towbar) so 3 bikes is probably about the max, depending on the bikes

Which is easy to exceed as a Thule 4 bike rack weighs over 20kg by itself. But a nose weight for a trailer is different to a maximum vertical loading for a towbar.

That's an MG France promotional photo, so I assume that the towbar is factory (well, dealer) fit.

50 Kg nose weight would seem about right for a 500 Kg towing limit if the MG5 Mk2 has that as an approved accessory.

That would be the Mk 2 not the MG5 LR we have in UK and in any case, what's approved in EU I don't know if it would be harmonised for UK Spec?

As I said, IF you are considering a purchase - AFAIK, MG have stopped orders for the MG5LR in the UK now (well, according to Miles they have), so the next version you can order is this one, exactly the same as the photo which comes to the UK in late 2022.
Apart from the steering wheel being on the wrong side on your version, the only difference will be what name the models get and the UK version won't get 3-phase charging (al European versions get this, not just the LR battery as per the MG ZS).
