Tow bar

Here's what i am targeting next, a trailer tent made specifically for cars with a 500kg towing limit. Called Camplet. It is an European brand.

Did anyone have some more experience since this thread was busy-er?

I have made previous comments on this subject and fitted a Witter tow bar myself. You do need a unique wiring system. But the mechanical side isn't too difficult if you're handy with the spanners. I have used my tow hitch to pull much more than 500kg. The hitch is rated at around 1700kg and the hitch is mounted very sturdily on the rear of the chassis. So I don't have any problems with towing up to 1000kg with a braked trailer. I was a coachbuilder by trade so I don't make these comments with zero background on mechanical capability. Hope you find my thoughts useful.

Ohh, my appologies, i do have the MG4 official tow bar installed by the dealer.

I am more asking for experiences of towing a camping trailer. The one i posted is about 250kg own weight so allows for even additional 250kg load. Perfect for camping furniture and stuff.

However, for a long trip i think we loose too many safety systems. I don't even think the simple speed limiter is allowed? Definitely not LKA, ACC, Blind spot Alert.

So, it seems like a lot of inconvenience if say you like to take the setup for 2x3000km.

Or, are those systems not as needed as we think?

Be sweet if you could get some solar on top of that trailer, put a few electrons back in the car.

I guess we’ve driven cars without all those aids for a long time, but I agree you get used to some of them quickly. It’s probably a good thing though to give the car less control when towing, to prevent it from jackknifing the trailer. Although there would be systems that could deal with a trailer, MG has obviously decided not to add those items to our bill, and I think that makes sense for this particular car.

Both my wife and I have all that stuff turned off.
We certainly neither need nor want them.

You just have to get used to driving again, instead of letting the car do it for you.
Much like driving the other car, an '06 Prius. The windows get a wipe or two at the first half a dozen corners, nearly run up the bum of a car at traffic lights when cruise control is on ...... relearning how to operate the cruise control and wondering why the lights haven't turned on .... or even the car for that matter, your sitting in the seat, what more does it want
