Two weeks in, feeling a bit Meh about the MGS5 EV if I am honest.

On the S5 it has a twist to off (anti-clockwise) and then springs back. This seems to let you turn off the headlights when parked but not in Drive or Reverse where they come on automatically and the twist off on the stalk doesn't do anything. I suspect it's a bug in software or feature. I did ask MG customer services this and when the LKA green icon should show on the cluster and their response after 1 week was to book my car in for diagnostic at the service centre!
Ok, sounds different then. On the MG4 there is a little switch on the front of the light stalk which you flick right to toggle manual and auto mode and then move to select sidelights/headlights.

It is independent of the drive mode on the MG4.

I don't know how I should feel, probably happy to have a brand new car in the driveway but for some reason the MGS5 EV Trophy has left me feeling a bit let down.

All the reviews seemed very positive so maybe it is just me as I have had Hyundai cars for the last 6 years and therefore they felt very familiar and comfortable to me. I fancied a change and if I am honest am not sure I made the right choice.

There are imho a number of irritating quirks in the software:

1. No Auto Light/Dark on main display
2. No light mode on the driver cluster, I find this is is very dim and small font makes it difficult to read at times for those of us with Varifocals
3. Error messages each time I connect with Apple Car Play saying it can't connect but it does and you have to press OK to clear them
4, Not remembering the drive mode and regen mode when switched off
5. 3rd party Sat Nav apps not displaying on the cluster in the same way onboard does
6. Voice controls are a joke, slow to respond and rarely seem to recognise what I say
7. Lane Keep assist impossible to see if it is on or off on the cluster, there does seem to be a green icon in the manual that says LKA Active but I have only seen it come on a few times and usually when on a slip road and the line markings go for 2 lanes.
8. Hands Free Tailgate seems to open very easily and is triggered by moving the charge cable under the car. I have turned mine off.
9. Hands Free Tailgate sometimes doesn't complete shutting when you walk past it and then lets you drive off before telling you it is open with a very quiet beep.
10. Auto Headlight Off switch does not work unless car is in Park, it is impossible to turn off the headlamps when dark if in reverse or drive which for me is a big issue as I have to reverse into my drive and its illuminating the neighbours front room, who never shut their curtains, every time. He has complained twice already but I can't do anything about it. The only slight assistance I can offer him is to drop the levelling down to 3 so the lights are pointing lower. I don't think it helped that when I first did it the auto main beam kicked in and spotlighted him on his sofa!

These are the ones I have found so far.

Overall I think I like the car but compared to my Kona I find the Driver Assist a bit flakey and ride harsh particularly over speed humps.

There is a definite lag when you put your foot down in Normal mode, not tried sports yet, which is in a way an improvement on the Front Wheel drive Kona as it was very easy to wheel spin that one, but it does sometimes leave you feeling like your waiting for something to happen. The lag has made me very cautious about overtaking or pulling into a gap.

Anyone else feel the same way or are you all happy with your MGS5s? I know a lot of people on here are probably coming from other MGs so probably this feels comfortable to you.

Be interested to hear your views.

Not had a problem with tailgate but have had problems with headlights; my problem is on auto the headlights go on to main beam and don't turn to dipped quick enough when meeting oncoming traffic, have been flashed a few times. Headlight off seems to be a momentary action, found that by mistake.
Suspension I find a bit hard.
The central control screen I don't find intuitive at all but I'm persevering. Set mine to soft touch that seems to work better.
Google maps comes up before having a chance to set controls but then can't get it back! next step is to talk to it and see what happens.
Turned off the speed limit warning voice, I suspect most others do also. Speed limits seem to have a mind of their own at times putting up random speeds at will.
Do I like the car? Yes, but it could be a lot better.

There is a setting under the car tab to turn off automatic main beam, can’t remember the exact tab but it’s there. Haven’t seen any options for changing sensitivity of the touch screen will take a look for them.

This is the procedure for operating the lights (from the manual).
MGS5 light operation.webp

Tried that Clive and it works as described above,I haven’t tried holding it in that position while in reverse but that would make steering a bit awkward! I am pretty convinced it’s a software bug/feature but get the impression it is a waste of time talking to either MG customer services or dealer to try and get clarity and suggest a change via software. If MG, and others for that matter, gave customers a feedback form maybe direct from the touch screen they could learn a lot about real world use of their vehicles and make them really good.

Had mine a few weeks, there seems to be a few glitches including
MG PILOT doesnt seem to recognize the changes selected. Especially turning off the speed alerts etc I still get annoying constant speed warnings etc
FRONT COLLISION - not convinced this works, albeit not willing to test it fully
HILL START IN OPD - rolls back
OPD EMERG STOP - rolls back once brake is released.
Those are a few so far but the software seems very glitchy to me

Anyone else had these kind of issues?
