Afternoon all,

Had the MG4 Trophy L/R for 3 months now, love it 90% of the time, perhaps a common statement ? 10% that I don't are the usual software glitches/quality of interior plastics etc. I understand and can overcome these shortcomings most of the time. Recently though I have had a " tyre pressure monitoring system failure..consult manual" dash warning. If I stop , restart and carry on the warning disappears for a while then returns, sometimes followed by a warning of low pressure in either the left or right rear tyres. Following advice I read on here I've let air out, re-inflated in the hope that it may be a "stuck" sensor. This hasn't worked. The car is a 31/12/22 so still under warranty. Firstly, has anyone else had this issue? Second, do you think this is covered under warranty ( before I call the local dealer) . Always best to hear others views first I feel before I totally trust the local dealer (!). Appreciate any input....KR

Are you inflating the tyres enough? I'd recommend 38 psi all round. If yes and the issue still occurs, then it's either a software problem or one or more of the pressure sensors is faulty.

I looked in the warranty document and couldn't find any mention of pressure or sensor, so (to me) that means they're warranted for the full 7 years.

Thanks for the swift reply. Just checked and they are ( cold) 2.5 bar which is 36.2 psi. Worth a try at 2.6 I guess( 38 psi) as you suggest. I would understand that if it was a low pressure warning message but it's a pressure system failure message i'm getting so I can't really trust anything it says if it's faulty. I have checked and the pressures are actually as shown on the app/car so it appears to be working ok. Local dealer visit I feel..

Actually, I have the same error in my car (in my case, I get a warning that the entire system has failed). I’ve got a service appointment scheduled for next week — they will replace the sensor. What’s weird is that in my case, the error only appears after driving at autobahn speeds (around 120–130 km/h) for about 10–12 minutes, and it only affects the left rear tyre. I think it’s either the sensor in the wheel or — what I could also imagine — that the TPMS uses a four-antenna design (with one antenna in each wheel well). Maybe it’s just a misplaced antenna. Unfortunately I was not able to find any information regarding the tmps anywhere online so it's just a guess.

The sensors have a battery in them (usually a large button battery potted into the sensor). When the battery gets low or dies - the sensor is toast as you can’t replace the battery.

They transmit data on the same frequency as the remote central locking. The car knows where each sensor is as the serial number of the individual sensor is told to the car on installation hence if you rotate tyres, it won’t know the new/actual position without an update. It sounds very much like sensors are dieing. I believe they are only covered for a short time on the warranty.

The autel range of tpms kit supports the mg4 (autel have a generic sensor which you prepare with their tools to behave like an original) and there are a few options to replace (their generic sensors are cheap). They can be cloned from originals if you know the serial number or with their higher end tools new sensors can be created and then the serial numbers entered into the car so it knows what to listen for.

My car is from September 2023 and I have the issue since I took delivery in April this year. So I don’t think that it is the battery in my case. Sensors are like 20€ a piece in Germany but I was told that they will try to change it under warranty. Will post an update below when the car was in the shop

Seems a bit backwards in this day and age for them to need coding to the car for which wheel they are on. The car should be able to work that out for itself like many other brands can.
