Does anyone know if the Tyre Pressure Sensors are coded to the car? And, if so, what would I need to do if I replaced a wheel with a different sensor? Is it the sort of thing you can do with Car Scanner Pro?

Yes, they are. Most tyre places will be able to pair a new sensor with the car, (provided it’s compatible).

Car Scanner Pro can’t pair a new sensor, however it can delete the relevant DTC if pairing didn’t work, therefore re-starting the pairing process.

Some owners have reported success after a few attempts.

Can be programmed via SIPS/VDS3 using VNCI dongle:

Any more detail on this?

I have two sets on wheels and two sets of sensors. I understood that each sensor is binded to a certain wheel position:
FL, FR
BL, BR
So even if you switch the sensor from one position to another it would need to be reprogrammed.

So if I buy the SIPS dongle you mentioned I could do this programming by myself? As this is something you do twice a year I would do it for mine and a colleague of mine that both have same type of car.

Do you also need a wireless reader for sensor? Some device they put near the sensor and wirelessly read probably some serial?

Sorry, been offline for a while.

No further reader required for TPMS reprogramming - is all done within the SIPS/VDS software, which in turn requires an active RMI session (access purchased in 1 or 24hr slots). MG5 user manual does not state requirement for reprogramming wheels to a specific axle when rotating but conversely the MG4 manual states you do have to reprogram.

I’m guessing that in swapping complete sets of wheels twice a year for winter/summer use you would have to fully reprogram every time.

Another interesting observation is that TPMS on the 5 also shows tyre temps but the 4 doesn’t.
